Tennessee River
Alot you on city-data.com have been talking about Huntsville lacking a river in its downtown and city limits. Considering the fact that dowtown Huntsville is about ten miles from the river, how can it develop this area so the river can feel like Huntsville actually had transformed it and took pride in for years? Example: Tuscaloosa and the Black Warrior River (riverwalk, parks, dining places, and housing along the river) How can Huntsville take after Tuscaloosa and how Tuscaloosa developed the area along the river?

It seems like the river is too far away for it to be part of the Huntsville cityscape in such a way that people from Huntsville and its suburbs could visit on the fly.

Charles, you remember when I was telling you what if downtown Huntsville "actually" sometime experienced a skyscraper boom or just a boom period, and it didn't have alot of room to grow, could downtown be moved to the river as a result of this? Because of this, it could actually have more suburbs: Arab, DECATUR, and others. Then, it could also be on the new Memphis-Huntsville-Atlanta. If this happens, then the current downtown should turn into another research park, a business park, or something.

^ Why would they go through the trouble of moving the current location of downtown Huntsville so it can have a river. That is crazy to me thats my opinion. Huntsville will have to have Atlanta and Houston type of growth combimed to rebuild a another down town to the standards of what you want it. It took Huntsville 200 years to have the downtown it has now it is not that easy. Your talking about a life time now !!!!

HUH? Who said that besides you?
What would the purpose be to move Huntsville downtown so it could have tall buildings? If the city actually wanted to expand they will find a way without moving the entire downtown. They go out and buy up property or condemn it if you don't sell to get more land.
Who in Huntsville would ever want the city to be like Atlanta or Houston?

From what I see, it seems like if Huntsville wanted to really and truly expand its downtown, the expansion seems like it would disturb the historic areas surrounding the downtown area. Again, I think that if Huntsville wants a bigger and taller downtown that looks suitable for a city its population, than I think that the only choice, if any, would be to relocate to the river. Hey, that's how I feel.

You are trying to be funny! If you are not, at least somebody see my potential besides Charles. If I was mayor, Huntsville would be planning to relocate a larger, better, taller, more productive, more urban, and more lively downtown on the river.
