Ding! Ding! Ding! Here we go! All of people on city-data have always debated about does Huntsville seem like a southern city. Does it and does it not? Several of us argue that it is in Alabama, and it presents southern character, hospitality, lifestyle, and accent. What do you really think?

When I am here, I realize how southern it is. It has blues stations, BBQ joints, and southern people. So of course, I voted YES!

NO, and most people don't want it to be.

Why is that? Why wouldn't people want their city to be southern? Why would would someone want their city to be northern where folks don't speak, aren't friendly, and are too busy? That doesn't make any sense. People should want Huntsville to be southern. If Huntsville ian't "southern", what is it? It sho ain't northern!

Many people look down on the south.I wish Huntsville could be southern while it continue to "grow", I think it would make it a more attractive city to all kinds of people. Like Memphis,Houston etc..But the reality is, its becoming less southern.

I don't think it is becoming less southern; it's all in your (and others) head. People tend to think that since Huntsville is getting an influx of people from other areas of the nation besides the South, they feel like it becoming less southern. Look at Atlanta, several people from the North are moving there. It may seem like it is becoming less southern, but it's not. It is the hub of the South. It has a southern feel to it although people from everywhere are moving there. When you think of the dirty south, you think of Atlanta. Huntsville is similar.

I am from SFBayArea. Been here for almost 2 months. No - it does not feel southern - relatively speaking.
When I first came here ---- yes.
Now that I've been traveling outside of the HSV area ... it is becoming less so. We are the least southern-culture-wise in the region - relatively speaking.

If Huntsville is the least southern-culture-wise in the region, who is the most southern-culture-wise in the region or state?

Like I said, Huntsville doesn't feel northern. I bet you if somebody from up North came to Huntsville, they will see that Huntsville is southern and not northern. It surely does feel more southern did alot of these cities that call themselves southern.
