Default Madison County Garbage

What's up with Madison County's garbage. Officials are talking about a $4.50 hike in garbage pickup charges.

$16.50/month for a truck to come to your house in a far flung portion of the county and pick up your trash and limbs still seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Hi, I live out in the county and I agree that it is inexpensive. The only problem I have is that for bulk item pick up there's no specific day (at least for my zone.) They'll tell you "around the first week of the month." That works fine if you're not in a subdivision. If you are, you really don't want things piling up for a week. If a rate hike means getting a specific day for my zone to have bulk pick up, I'll pay my share for the progress.

We had to...adjust...severely...with the way Madison county (Huntsville) handles garbage/rubbish pick-up.
I will admit to being spoiled by previously having TWO garbage pick-up days every week, one or two rubbish days (weird schedule) and another separate run for large...stuff...that folks would put on the curb. Just the way our region did things, was part of the total cost we were normally billed - only had to call for a special trip if you had a truckload.

Now we have only one garbage, one rubbish day and 2 very large, stinky garbage cans. I have noticed that some times boxes and larger 'items' will be removed and other times not. I do not know the what or why -- not my stuff -- having only run in to putting sized but not bagged debris out for pick-up last year after clearing an overgrown spot. (PI, weeds and other leaved refuse were appropriately contained.) Was informed that I had to bag some twiggy, thorned stuff FL would have scooped up with the claw, small limbs and saplings.

OK.

Perhaps the real wood chunks go elsewhere and that's why they want it sorted in such a way. Dunno.

Now I have small felled trees to cut up and portion for pick-up over the next few weeks, myself...if we had HOA I'd be in violation. Then again, this property would have been in violation long before I moved in.

Happy to be free.

Living in Huntsville, I'm pleased with the Monday garbage pickup, Monday trash / yard waste pickup, and Thursday Recycling. The yard waste pickup timing is perfect - I can work in the yard on the weekend and it's gone on Monday.

I was a little concerned when HSV went to once-a-week garbage pickup, but the automated cans are large enough for my needs. I thought that odor and bugs would be a problem, but even in the heat of Summer it's not bad.

Archie Garrard is on a distinguished road
Garbage pick-up in Huntsville is adequate and timely at once a week. Generally my own needs are sufficient for every other week pick-up. That means that I pay for those that require weekly pick-up or more debris, which is OK with me. The proposel of increasing the rates or cost of pick-up is superficial, in my opinion. Please let me explain: It would seem sensible if a surcharge could be issued to customers that require heavy or unusual pick-up. That would give the City some help in these unusual times. Customers should be in agreement where extra pick-up is doing them a service, and to pay a little bit more.

I wonder why some areas of Madison County (the actual county not cities) have twice a week trash pick-up and once a week recycling when other county resdients have only once a week. Personally, I would be okay with once a week as most of the time we rarely have a full can. I, too have a problem with their stange system of once a month (vaguely during a specified week for a particular zone with the fourth week allowed for catch-up) collection of yard waste, bulk items, etc. I would enjoy having a specified day for that type of collection and I would like to have it more than once a month.
