I'd say that Madison is sprawling (I finally get it), which doesn't attract alot of transplants. Hampton Cove has that natural feeling with a hint a suburban.

Madison has tons of transplants. In fact, I suspect most people in Madison are transplants. It seems like you are getting all your information from people on this message board, who happen to be a very pro-Hampton Cove bunch.

I have found this to be a very pro-Madison board. And it IS full of transplants, much more so than Hampton Cove. However, I don't have a dog in the race since I live in a city known as Huntsville.

I think in the past there were more people on here from Madison. But lately, I'm not so sure. I would agree with your statement about transplants in Madison vs. Hampton Cove. A lot of the native (maybe long time)Huntsvillians and even those from outlying areas like Cullman and Gadsden who moved to the Huntsville to take engineering/government jobs have taken up residence in Hampton Cove. Additionally, I've met a bunch of former Hampton Cove residents who sold out in recent years (there are several in my neighborhood) to take advantage of the run-up in real estate prices.

I don't like the idea to peg one neighborhood against another. It is not about Madison vs. Hampton Cove, rather; it is where you like your home to be in the future, what are your most important criteria when choosing your home, and what makes the most sense for you & your family. Everyone has different taste, preference, and affordability. Thank God for diversity !!!

Yes, most of us on this board are transplants. That's how we found this board, came here for relocation information, and continue to stay to learn about the neighborhoods & the city where we make our home.

I live in Madison, but I'd like to encourage ALL future home buyers to go to Hampton Cove, New Market, Hazel Green, Toney, Lacey Spring, etc. !!! Personally, I like to keep the city of Madison SMALL & WELL-MANAGED and don't want the run-away growth that can not be sustained which will result in a loss of QUALITY OF LIFE.

And again...there's also this little city known as Huntsville (west of the mountain) with some very nice neighborhoods.

Keep Madison small? It wasn't too many years ago it had less than 1,500 people! Some would say it's too late regarding run-away growth in either Hampton Cove or Madison.

Saying that, choosing where to live I think would depend largely upon where you work and finding a neighborhood you like--both have some great neighborhoods. Hampton Cove feels less crowded and cramped to me, though.

I know of no areas of the Huntsville/Madison area that feel "crowded and cramped" to me. Maybe some apartment complexes or shopping centers???

Madison grows too much and too fast. Tons of new subdivisions have been developed. Tons of stores have been opened along 72, County Line, and Madison Blvd. I do not know those new residents are transplants or not. Maybe we are all native and just popped up from underground.

And the small city of Decatur, just to the west of Madison.
