Default Ok all of you engineers I need your help to help a friend

I've only lived here for 9 months and my husband is an engineer working in Decatur. I am not too familiar with the companies in Huntsville. Nor am I familiar with what the heck the people in those big buildings in research park do all day.

I was forwarded a resume today of someone looking for a job and don't know where to suggest he send it. As it has been said on this board before there is no better place to look for a science/engineering job then Huntsville. I am hoping I can help him.

Here are some things from his resume:

Experience with ProEngineer,MatLab, LabView, Minitab.

Fluent in French and Romainan and working knowledge of German and Italian.

1999-Present Motorola

"Developed Analytical programs for design of LED and laser diacode light sources for microprojectors and displays."

"Performed Electrical radiometric and photometric measurements for light collection efficiency, color balance, power and heat management."

I believe he is a wireless communications supplier.

His resume is very extensive. He is a very accomplished engineer.

These are just the first 2 lines of his resume. There is so much more.

Does any of this experience fit with any company around here. I just don't know what is here.

I hope you can help!

Companies in CRP:

Huntsville Alabama USA - Companies in CRP - Alphabetical List

ADTRAN comes to mind-manufacturer of telecom equipment (they take pride in being a native HSV- founded and HQ'ed in Hsv-and looks like they've been doing well -on the surface at least, don't have inside info)

I would suggest type in some of those specific terms in a job search engine for HSV/Madison, and see what companies come up for that field of work.

Also, do not discard other engineering specialties where his skills and knowledge could be transferable (in case his field is very narrow for HSV). Changing fields might prove beneficial as the manufacturing around here is tanking (Sanmina-electronics, medical devices), Continental (electronics for (Detroit) automotive), Cinram (DVD recording). With his various LAB application knowledge, a design position with a smaller company (contractor for defense) might be a better choice.

I would start with DRS (DRS Test & Energy Management Homepage). They make test sets and are always looking for engineers.

1) Is he a U.S. citizen?

2) How many years of experience does he have?

Tell him to try Telcordia. I have a friend that used to work there.

They are in telecommunications. I know he took several trips over seas for projects, so the multiple languages could be a plus also.

if he's a citizen, he should get on usajobs.gov and/or cpol.army.mil and post his resume to positions he likes.

I am finding out whether or not he is a citizen so I can post that later.

He got his BS in 1971, his phd in 1990 and his masters in 1993. It looks like he started working in 1971.

Interesting, he went back to get a M.S. in chemical engineering after his Ph.D. degree in physics.

I know someone who has a M.S. in chemical engineering and works in the RSA with the Army. This person was originally came from a communist-block country but is now a citizen with security clearance.

So yes, his degree is applicable with Army jobs and, if he's a citizen, they will apply a clearance for him if they want his skills.
