Moving to Huntsville
Contemplating a move to Huntsville. Are there accomodations in downtown either rent or to buy. We are open to a loft or a condo situation. I have tried to look at the real estate sites but haven't found anything. We don't want a yard. We don't have kids. We need to be close to the grocery, drug store and shops. Any ideas?

Because you haven't found anything, does that mean there is nothing?
What sites did you use?
What is your price range to rent and to buy?
Did you try Zillow?
Trulia?
Realtor?
google?
yahoo?
Valleymls?

There are condos and lofts downtown, but they are mostly fairly expensive.
What's your budget?

The downtown condos aren't really close to groceries, drugstores, or shops either (Five Points is a mile or so away).
There is a development named 'Constellation' planned, but I think it's hotels and restaurants and shops - no grocery. IMO it's moving pretty slowly, probably due to the economy.

Why not? You're young, no kids, schools are not an issue. No need in living in suburbia if that's not what you need. I might suggest looking at the Historic 5 Points area though. It's pretty much downtown and has lots of character and craftsman bungalow style homes. It's got an eclectic vibe (as much as Huntsville can get) and all the amenities you seem to be asking for. There are still plenty of decent rentals in 5 Points and reasonably priced homes for sale. If I could live downtown I would (and I do have a child).

What about Providence, if price isn't an issue? Also, if Huntsville isn't cast in stone, Florence is well known for great lofts downtown, and isn't TOO far away.

This may be along the lines of what you're looking for, depending on your price range:
301 E Holmes Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 - Zillow
(Their main website doesn't seem to be working at the moment...)
