I'll be interested to see what justification they give if they decide to reopen Huntsville and Madison County schools. There are more cases, so inevitably it will spread. It seems to me that if you extend their logic to the next step, they'd keep schools closed. Otherwise it's going to be "Oops, we decided that this flu is no more serious than the (similarly dangerous) seasonal flu we yawn at every winter, so it's insane to keep schools closed."

Hmmn...this is all getting a bit weird, especially as the reports come in of a "less than threatening" strain...Flu = bad. Agreed. But if this isn't even as potent or widespread as the usual, annual insult...what justification, indeed.
It does seem odd that some schools in the same vicinity would be open and others closed...but I am as befuddled by the idea that NONE of these are actually confirmed cases. The wording, all in the wording. Confirmed suspicion...right.

One of them has been confirmed during the weekend. And I bet most of our 8 cases will be confirmed this week. I believe it is not our state cannot check the virus. They just do not have the authority to confirm that. So all they can say it we confirmed that these are not regular flu even though they know it is swine flu. And all samples have to been confirmed by CDC who is working overtime to exam all samples from all over the country.
Of course "confirmed" may not mean anything. People will say, none of them actually died ...

And wow, I'm so shocked, the CDC is now literally saying "It's just the flu. Stop closing schools."
Of course they say these new guidelines are based on "new information" that this illness is mild, even though the information is not really 'new' at all, something MANY doctors and health officials have been saying since the beginning. People in the government whose scientific knowledge is weak at best, over-reacted.
Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.

The current tally by the CDC still shows only 4 cases of H1N1 flu in all of Alabama.
This is relatively low (if not one of the lowest in all contiguous states!)...
Vermont = 1
Idaho = 1
South Dakota = 1
Georgia = 3
Kentucky = 3
1. What is the reason for such low number? Are we doing something better that other states?
2. Did the ever vector where the 4 cases originated from?

Personally, I have had the flu once, but I also have sinus infections alot. When I was diagnosed with the flu, I thought it was sinus. The sinus infections that I have are more severe and painful than the flu. That's why I ask that question.
