What is up wth all the robberies in East Limestone? In less than two weeks Joes Pharmacy was robbed twice, Relience bank was robbed, Abby's mini mart was held up and rumor has it Discount food mart across from the High School was robbed.

A little further to the north Coffee Pot Grocery was broke into after hours a few weeks ago.

What has happened to our quiet community in recent weeks?

Why do I not see anyone stepping up police patrols in the area?

Do we all need to frequent local business more often and help look out for them?

I do notice some local men hanging out at the banks and helping keep an eye out.

If we do not have adiquit police protection we may have to form a local look out group, I work all day or I would organize one.

Is there anyone out there interested?

If anyone is interested I can get the media involved and contact Mike Blakley to get the word out and set up a community meeting.

I think if we just took up donations for some magnetic community look out signes for cars and flashing warning beacons and could organize look out shifts to patrol toubled areas crime might decline because they would know peple were watching more.

Thanks for the post. I had heard about Reliance, but not about the others. I haven't noticed any increased police patrols in the area either. Maybe we need to make a few phone calls.

Reliance Bank and Joe's are on the corner of Capshaw and East Limestone, pretty busy intersection.

Abby's is just further down East Limestone - I think on the corner of Nick Davis, right?

I live pretty close to the robberies. I think it just boils down to desperate people. Thankfully 2 of the crooks were caught. Turns out the guy that tried to rob the pharmacy lives 5 houses down and frequented that store alot.

To be honest this is one of the reasons I'm packing heat these days...

I have a permit but seldom carry a gun. I go in to work early and I occasssionaly take one in because I open up early. I would not hesitate to use it if necessary though. We had a wave of break in's in North Alabama years ago and after a couple of intruders were killed trying to break in they quit for a while. The problem these day's as the drugies do not seem to care. They will do anything and have no fear. It is funny, you need a permit, but you are so restrickted to were you can legaly carry a gun including most work places and school property that the permit is about useless. You do not need a permit to keep one at your home. I think the work policy is realy just to keep the companies out of a law suite if a nutty worker starts shooting up the place though.

Have to admit, I am thinking more and more of getting a gun. The world is changing and not always for the better.

I agree it has become more & more restrictive on legal carry. Maybe it is a reflection of our "dumb & dumber" society these days.

Back in the 'people's republic' state I came from, you do not need a permit to carry a gun on your property including your place of business if you own it, otherwise refer to employer's policy. But being able to legally 'concealed' carry is totally different than able to show your gun. You can't show bad guys that you have a gun in order to scar him/her off, that would be considered brandishing your weapon - a legal ground to take away your permit. Stupid, huh?

I am still learning about alabama gun laws, but so far it looks far better than the people's republik.

Getting a gun can be a life-changing experience (no pun intended). If you decide to get one, make sure you get all the training you can. Because once a situation is elevated to that point, there is no turning back.
