Someone posted a link a while ago about water fountains for children play (couldn't find it again). One was the Bridge Street (water jets coming out of the ground-that's the kind I'm looking for), and the other one referenced in the link was located at Big Spring (downtown Hsv). Or so I thought - that it would be an "underground" fountain. So we made a trip downtown and didn't see anything like that - only the "waterfall" fountain at the entrance across from the courthouse. Is there anything of that kind in Hsv or Madison, except the Bridge Street? I know there's Florence downtown park, Bham Zoo, Decatur, but was looking for something closer to home for an hour "change of scenery and venue" outing with the kids (they've had enough of backyard kiddie pool). thanks

Huntsville Speedway. Kids get to ride the Kid's Kool Bus on the track. Lots of fun. Has a family section with no alcohol or smoking. Huntsville Speedway

Spring Park in Tuscumbia:
Tuscumbia Railway
Spring Park
Has a railroad, roller coaster, swings, fountains and an old fashion ice cream shop near the entrance. Also near the Helen Keller Birthplace for the older kids.

Beechcraft Museum. Has planes you can climb in and ones that are cut up so you can see how they were built and work. The Starship was the best! You could even sit inside in the leather chairs.
Welcome to the Beechcraft Heritage Museum

Our daughter enjoyed the tour at jackdaniels.com. Lunch at Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House - Lynchburg, TN is worth it.
The tour at Welcome to Dickel.com is even more cool and you get right up in there. They even give you a free painter's cap to wear and loaner safety glasses.
Prichard's Distillery, Fine Rum, Crystal Rum, Cranberry Rum, Key Lime Rum, Sweet Georgia Belle Peach Mango Rum, Private Stock Rum, Sweet Lucy and Double Barreled Bourbon is in an old school down the road from Falls Mill and fun on a smaller scale. The old 1930's map glued on the wall is really neat to see.

What about these restaurants for taking kids:
