Black News in Huntsville
I thought that I would initiate a thread based on black events, people, and other news in the Huntsville region. Although Huntsville has a nice but small black percentage, I think that this thread will help to inform, not only blacks, people about black news and lfe in the Huntsville region. I do not mean to exemplify any racism or discrimination, just wanted to highlight "Black Huntsville."

Why does "black huntsville" need to be highlighted? Why can't "black huntsville" simply be a part of Huntsville? Why must "black" events be treated/noted separately? ... and for that matter, what the heck is a black event? I'll never understand the unending interest making oneself stand apart (i.e. the black community) while simultaneously claiming that one is not treated as part of the community in general - as the black community is prone to do (not exclusive to Huntsville).
Please forgive, I don't mean to hijack your thread; but can you please tell me what exactly "black news" is and how it is different from "white news"?

I already now this thread is going to get deleted.....................................
Anyway, what I mean is, I think that there needs to be a black thread for a city who isn't black dominant but still has some black interested in moving here. Huntsville has A&M and Oakwood; that's about it with the blackness in Huntsville. I feel that to get "nomadic" black people interested into Huntsville, is to start a thread that informs them about being black in Huntsville.

A&M Bulldawg - I'm in agreement with DA8 on this - why segregate yourself? Why can't we be "One Huntsville"?
I think that you are perpetuating a division that will disappear over time as blacks are assimilated into the majority culture (for example, assimilation is one of the goals of the Huntsville Housing Authority - that's why it wants to move into South Huntsville - note that HHA is run by a black man with a majority black Board). Praise Obama for showing black people that they are accepted by whites (he couldn't have won otherwise).

No need to delete the thread or any posts... I just want to know why Huntsville needs a news feed based on one's race. Its simply an honest question. Is there something that black folks in Huntsville should be made aware of that I shouldn't be?
What kind of things/events should we call "black" events... and does the black community really want to be separate? I honestly want to know.
So, what about being black in Huntsville is different from being white in Huntsville?

Black people still think differently and are interested in different things, that's just how it is. We have assimilated somewhat but anybody who is not the largest percentage of the population will always feel the need to create their own things. Other minority groups do it as well. Blacks and whites in general have different interests whether it is movies, music, types of things to do, night places to hang out, etc... that's just the reality of the way things are.
