How about some info. on Huntsville area weather. This is where my husband and I are looking at (In VA now), we dieffinately want to get away from cold winters and want more mild climate with hot summers! Not real keen on snow, but would rather it snow than just be plain cold.

Right now it is 52 and cloudy, expecting light rain.
If you are in NoVA, the weather will be almost the same as what you've got now. But a little warmer. Not much snow (almost none). Just plain cold, wet winters. And hot humid summers. And pollen-filled springtime. We get better (more intense) thunderstorms than NoVA. And more tornados.
HSV is in the Middle South, USDA hardiness zone 7a (same as WDC). Average frost-free date is April 15th (last weekend the temp went to high 20s).

Thanks for the info. Im actually in southern VA, pretty close to VA Beach. I live right on the water and we can get really bad flooding from hurricanes and horrible Nor-Easters in the winter. It snowed here on Easter, 4 inches!!! CRAZY!

I think the weather here isn't much different tha the Raleigh-Durham area (I grew up there), if that helps you. You might want to watch the news/weather on one of the local TV stations' online sites. Try Googling WAFF or WHNT and visit their sites once in a while to get an idea of our weather. With all the aerospace industry here and the occasional tendancy to get severe weather ("wind events"), local TV stations do an outstanding job with forecasting/forewarning.

So I'm telling my parents and in-laws back in CA about having our windows open all day today - no air conditioning needed since Friday afternoon, in Huntsville, Alabama in the middle of August and tonight we're going to have to bundle up because it is supposed to be in the high 50s. And back there in CA, they're getting the annual monsoon heat and humidity and even a slight chance of thunderstorms.

We live in RDU and are looking at Huntsville. We have been mapping the weather daily between the two and they are very close. Is there a lot of pollen there, specifically, more than RDU?

There's an old saying "If you don't like the weather, wait around an hour or two and it will change."
This really sums up the weather in the mid south. It could be hot today and cool tomorrow. There is always humidity and insects. Today we are experiencing a beautiful sunny day with a breeze and temps in the 70s. The humidity factor was about 52%. It was more like October than August.

Pollen is high here... my allergies are definitely at a high as well... but the worst thing is the tornadoes.

Tornadoes are the worst thing that hits anywhere.
Seriously, I don't see any different tornadic activity here than where I grew up near Detroit, MI.
I am sure statistically there are more, but they don't effect me any more here than they did up there.
