I heard that Sanmina and Boeing are laying off lots in July. So, it looks like Huntsville is going to be affected by the recession as well.

Anybody got more info on these?

According to a post on the thread http://www.city-data.com/forum/hunts...-job-loss.html, Boeing could be laying off 700 around July 17, and DRS will be laying off as well. As for Sanmina, that is a new one I've not heard yet.

The Boeing cuts have nothing to do with the recession - they are due to large cuts in the GMD and FCS programs.

We are already being affected. Just not as bad as the rest of the country. Ask those who do not have high tech jobs.

Sanmina has already had layoffs. So have lots of others in the Huntsville area. Layoffs have been happening for months in Huntsville. The economy is bad everywhere.

Exactly. That would be our savior obama's missile defense cuts.

Where Sanmina's layoffs only in manufacturing or were engineers included?

Some engineers my husband worked with were layed off. I don't know about manufacturing employees or how many total employees were let go.

I can also say that some companies are apparently hiring right now and that several people have been shifting around. Hubby has told me about a bunch of folks who have moved jobs in the last few months. They aren't at the traditional "big" employers usually talked about here (Boeing, NG, Sanmina, etc.) or at least not that I've been told about. But, you know, a lot of people don't work for those high profile companies.

Sanmina laid off few months ago, mostly "office" jobs, this must be the production wave now?... Let's not forget Sanmina's troubled past, as any other manufacturing enterprise's fate in the advent of the outsourcing. Story goes Sanmina used to be big thing in Hsv and surroundings in the 80s. Several plants, and big ones, I believe one of top (civilian) employers back in the day.
