If Obama hits Huntsville real hard, what will continue to keep Huntsville growing rapidly each year?

You know why: when I was growing up, my family from New York would always talk about how Alabama is so country and how boring Alabama is. That really irked my nerves, and always wanted me to wish for something better and bigger for Alabama. Because I envisioned and prayed so much for the state that I love, my dream has come true and is yet to come true; just wait and see!

That is why I love Huntsville so much because it is actually fulfilling my dream!

Huntsville grows fastest in state - al.com
Only problem is Huntsville is still "boring and country". They just have a really good job market and growth right now due to the defense and nasa presence.

TCnbham is on a distinguished road
Great job Huntsville.....For all those that have something negative to say about the growth of this city should really stop and take a long look at the other cities in this state. Accept your recognition and be proud of Huntsville. Believe me there are alot of other cities in this state that have alot of negative issues and problems. Huntsville is really showing up and giving Alabama a positive reputation. Get behind the growth and make it postitive and stop complaining people!!!!! Those who have been supporting and have an optimistic outlook ..keep up the good work !!!!

here's my two hard-earned cents:

These rankings are useless! and the fanfare around them.
Ask the people that lost their jobs (mainly) in manufacturing sector (so far). Such rankings don't put food on their table nor pay the bills.
Like always, where's a boom, always expect a bust.
Remember the Chinese/Russian giant guys featured on tv: growing pains, and then they die young because they can only grow so fast and so much that their system fails.
One more thing I like to add: these rankings come out many months to years after the reality of it, such that it's no longer cause for celebration now, is it? That was 2007-2008, get over it people. You cannot revolve your life and pride around the fact that HSV ranked 15th fastest growing city in 2007 FOR EVER. We got the memo, now let's go back to work, so we can keep HSV on these lists for ever if this what you need to feel happy, proud and fulfilled. I for one have better things to do with my life.
I get it, it's a good marketing tool in the right hands, the Chamber of Commerce can now add another accolade to Hsv portfolio: 1997 this, 2003 that for years to come. But for the life of me, I have no use of this information. Ok, I read it once, and I'm happy, especially because I still have a job at this time, but I don't get high on it. For every "good" ranking there's at least a "bad" one (either ranking itself or category,e.g. "worst crime"), rankings, schmakings, I can do without.

Reading the first line of KE's link "...and BRAC revs it up [the growth]" - I couldn't help but ask: What will then happen AFTER BRAC?" Much like those advice columns/books "Life after baby" - 2013: "HSV ranked 10th fizzled city".

Those numbers are great but this city has lost it's liveliest in the 6 years I've been here.Is it because of the type of people moving here or maybe it's because
Madison is the real growth engine?I know alot of people want like me for this one but I think the leaders of this city don't care about the residents in Huntsville because cater to Government employees who live in Madison and surrounding areas. Nothing new has came to the actual city of Huntsville in years. It looks bad Memorial pkwy,Drake,Bob Wallace, North Huntsville hasn't seen anything. This city is promoted through it's suburbs.

The conclusions you come up with sometimes amuse me. What you described happens in pretty much any city in America even the ones that aren't growing fast as well as the growing ones. Most growth is in America is in newer suburbs older areas get neglected as new areas grow. Just an FYI University Drive, Hampton Cove, Jones Valley, BridgeStreet are all in the Huntsville city limits and they've seen a ton of new stuff. North Huntsville will never see any major retail nobody wants to live there foreal. The older areas eventually do get re-developed but it generally takes a little longer to develop than the strip-mall sprawl suburbia type of growth.

The northern part of South Parkway is just old and too close to North parkway to see much good quick growth but remember Constellation is still planned for this area so we may see some redevelopment in the coming years. Also the new redone parkway place opened in 2002 so don't exclude that but as I said most of the growth done south parkway is in the newer areas of Jones Valley/Hampton Cove which is all Huntsville city limits. So I think it's a little far fetched to say that Huntsville has lost its livelihood just because different (newer) parts of the city have seen much more growth than older portions. Its just the way America works, old places die and new places grow but overall there's been much more growth than there has been loss.

I know that's every city but the strange thing is that's all they see in other cities but not Hville. Why?I think it's mental prep. But it doesn't matter anyway.
