It kinda irks me when an OP starts a thread and then wants everyone to jump on the bandwagon, think like he does, and demands nothing contrary to his views.

A lot of you complain that Huntsville is boring???

How can Huntsville be boring? It's an exciting town!! Ever since I got here I have never been so busy visiting different places, shopping and being a good citizen like Obama wants me to be, spending my money and doing my share of stimulating the local economy.

Local store employees know me by sight. They smile when they see me, nevermind that there was a cute blond who happens to be walking behind me. I know they like me.

I know what you're thinking, but I am actually saving a lot of money by living in Huntsville. We do not feel the pressure to 'keep up with the Jones' here. In fact, the local Jones feel the pressure to keep up with us. No need for Louis Vuitton handbag, Versace, Vera Wang outfits, Gucci, Dolce or YSL shoes and Maui Jim sunglasses. Instead, we are very happy buying our clothes in the local Walmart these days. We are happy to see other ladies with their genuine vinyl handbag, similar walmart outfits and 1970 vintage hair style (it must be a new 'retro' fashion here in Huntsville).

Disagree on that one.. people always say how much different Atlanta is from the rest of Georgia.. they have more transplants than Huntsville. I agree though that some people do like Huntsville because its not like the rest of Alabama. I definitely think Huntsville can improve in the area of entertainment and things to do especially for young professionals and I'm not talking about major league stadiums, massive amusement parks and other ridiculous ideas. It's like some people here get really offended when you suggest Huntsville isn't the best and most exciting place in the world, any city can improve and should always strive to improve in areas it's weak in. The fact of that matter is as a population increases its not at all unreasonable to expect a city to be able to offer more, staying the same with huge population increases is just a ridiculous idea that many of the people here seem to take a hold to. How else can you justify keeping height limits downtown for a metro area that will soon be approaching half a million or more. This aspect of the city has improved significantly in recent years though, places like Bridgestreet have helped.. they are even opening a Dave and Buster's type spot at BridgeStreet this month. Now some people have ridiculous expectations for Huntsville like for it to be like Atlanta or Nashville but to say there can't be more entertainment options I just dont agree with. You can't expect to keep getting jobs without the secondary growth and things that come with it.. if you don't want growth stop recruiting for all the jobs to come to North Alabama.

Huntsville_secede we have debated this before.I disagree because they talking about the Metropolitan aspects of the state of Georgia, which couldn't apply to Huntsville because it not the biggest of the big four. The difference is that Atlanta is the capital of Georgia and had a strong larger southern population than Huntsville before the boom of transplants. Plus many of those transplants came from neighboring southern states whereas Huntsville transplants come from non-southern states. Atlanta has a representation of both strong Georgia or southern influence and a large international influence(perfect).

I'm a Huntsville native (born and raised as I always remind) who lived in Georgia for 9 years before returning here in 2006. I actually never lived in the Atlanta metro believe it or not. I lived in Augusta, Athens, and Savannah over those years. But I visited Atlanta 100s of times out of necessity (my National Guard unit drilled there for one). I have traveled all over the state of Georgia, probably more than Alabama actually. And my assessment of Atlanta metro is this... Atlanta IS MUCH DIFFERENT than the rest of the state of Georgia. In fact, when native Georgians would tease me about being from Alabama, I would tell them that Georgia is mostly nice like Alabama except for Atlanta, the huge festering scab in the middle of the state...haha. Now really, I like Atlanta fine. It was just a nice snappy comeback. I wouldn't particularly want to live in a city with 10 lanes of traffic stopped dead on Friday evening rush hour, but I'm not KE I suppose.

I would say that Huntsville is much more like Augusta than Atlanta. Atlanta is not a baby suckling at the teet of the federal government like Huntsville is. It has a much much more diverse private sector.

Nevertheless, yay Huntsville for sprawling all over County Line Road if that's what KE wants to hear.

I lived in Atlanta for 27 years. It is crammed full of Yankees and not nearly as southern as Huntsville.

My kids get a kick out of southern accents, because they had never heard one before in Atlanta. They also can't believe that all their friends fish and hunt. They never knew a kid who did those things in Atlanta.

mimpdaddy could not possibly be more wrong, Atlanta is not Georgia and everyone who lives in Atlanta and in Georgia knows it and says it all the time.

Depends on where you are. The people I know from Atlanta are more country than I have ever heard in Huntsville. Just watch cops or listen to the hip hop artist that come from Atlanta. The Grady babies. You don't have to hunt and fish to be southern, because people hunt and fish everywhere.

All in all, I actually think that Huntsville is more southern than Atlanta because it has a smaller population opposed to Atlanta's large diversed population. Although there are many transplants in Huntsville, it still seems more southern than Atlanta. I used to live in Atlanta for 3 years, and I saw southern, but not like you would find in the rest of Georgia. There are lots of different nationalities in Atlanta, which causes it to lose its southern and accent. There are so many Mexican-Americans to the point where you can't tell them from white people. Huntsville is southern; it's just that people expect more southern because it's in Alabama. It's almost like Alabama's own Atlanta (the city that's different from its homestate).

KE what do you think of the big things going on in Mobile?
You talk like Huntsville is the only place that is moving forward but Mobile has the biggest advantage of all the cities with it's ports or have not been paying attention the things happen there.
