Best Waterpark in the area....
We will be visiting the Huntsville area the first week of August and would like to spend the day at a waterpark in the area. I've been told there is one in the Decatur area and one in the Birmingham area...
Has anyone been to both parks? Do you like one over the other and why? Is there another waterpark that I'm not aware of?

Point Mallard Park in Decatur www.pointmallardpark.com is about 20 miles from Huntsville. Its wave pool was the first in America.
It's no Schlitterbahn, but it's pretty nice for a day!

One subtle thing to consider (beside Birmingham being almost two hours farther away than Decatur from Huntsville) is how many kids under 48" are in your group. You might want to check out which parks are more friendly for smaller kids. For example, only one of our kids is over 48" so we would want a park with little kids rides and not a super park (with premium prices) with the height minimums.

Definitely Point Mallard. I live less than a mile from the park, so I know it well. It has everything really. Well, not EVERYTHING, but it's features cover a broad age range. They have pools and play equipment for very young children, and they have exciting water slides that would thrill the older kids. There is also an artificial beach along Flint Creek that has real sand, a clean lake bottom, and palm trees. There is also a lifeguard out there too.

We really like Point Mallard, was not that impressed with Alabama Adventure. Not as clean, nor as fun.
We went to Alabama Adventure 2 years ago and a kid was on those racing slides and broke his neck going down. Scary!
