I have June bugs, and a ton of these dead gnat-like creatures (literally, enough to fill multiple buckets) all over the place.

It's not June bugs that are infesting the area these days. June bugs have the shiny green backs. June bugs are not what are dead all over my driveway. These beetle-like critters are brown and oval-shaped. And very stupid I might add...flying into windows and whatnot. June bugs don't come in droves like these dudes do.

What you're describing with the green backs sounds like Japanese beetles.

Here's what I'm describing. These are June bugs, Cotinis nitida. Cotinis nitida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They are not what I'm finding all over my driveway. As kids, we used to take these guys and tie string to one of their legs and fly them around.

ditto not june bugs at all
we call them idiot bugs (the ones in the OP) becuase, well, they're freakin' idiots.
some bugs seem to have a purpose like eating other bugs or maybe mating. these brown bettle-looking nutjobs have no mission in life other than to do stupid crap that results in their death as fast as possible
as you can tell, we have many of them around, mostly after a good rain

Correct Autobahn,
"June bugs" are the adult stage of our pain in the..well you know, white grubs which love lawns..perhaps they get high on all that grass as youngsters and are just dazed and confused as adults..which is good if you like to eat them.
Japanese beetles hang out on plants like roses or other plants we love..the grubs don't resemble white grubs...if memory serves me correctly
