I haven't seen anyone selling them at local farmer's market yet. IIRC I bought some late Aug early Sept last year. You can buy your own tree. They sell them at local nurseries and if you live near a Marvin's they also sell them. My neighbor has a huge tree but I don't know when it bears fruit. Her dog guards it.. LOL

Where did you buy the fruit? Farmer's market? I want to have a tree -eventually- but my cravings for fresh figs are too strong and cannot wait years (?) until my bush starts producing.
I want me some fresh figs with Belle Chevre. yumm.

PD. I live in Madison -Old Madison Pike close to Horizon School-.

I love fresh figs too! I usually get mine at Publix, but they only have them seasonally. Seems like fall is when they usually have them, and they are very expensive, but worth it! Might check at Fresh Market on Whitesburg too.
I planted a fig tree in our yard last year, but I am sure it will be a few years before we get any fruit ;(. My grandparents had a huge fig tree in their yard when I was young and the figs were delicious!
When you find some let me know...I love them, especially with proscuitto. MMMMMM!

Thanks!!!
I LOVE them with prosciutto -and honey- too! Last year I got some at Costco -during the summer-, but have not seen any so far and am getting anxious.
A great recipe is to broil them with some honey, caramelize some onion (only with butter and fresh thyme) and then put everything on the Cuisinart until soft. Spread that on some pita bread and enjoy.

Publix has them often (only seen imports).

Honestly, your best bet is to find someone with a tree and ask to pick your own. And, of course, growing a fig tree for the future.

I planted a fig tree (IIRC 'LSU Purple') several years ago and it was starting to produce figs, but then we had the Easter Freeze which killed it back. It took me a season to determine if it could be saved, but I pulled it out this year.

If you plant a fig tree, make sure that you get one suited for our colder weather (mine was supposed to be cold-hardy but wasn't up to the freeze). I plan to replant this Fall.

There's "Jack Black" and "TN Mountain" cultivars that supposedly do OK up into Zone 6. I think you'd want to shelter it with a good planting location though.
