Downtown Huntsville's Philby's Pourhouse and Grill closes its door 'for good' - The Bus Stops Here - al.com

Philby's closed apparently. Too bad, I haven't been there in a while, but it was a nice place to hang out. It just hurts downtown more to lose yet another bar/restaurant.

Never even heard of it... maybe if these places got the word out to some of us new folks they'd survive. Some Jazz place apparently closed before I ever knew it was there too.

That would be the Jazz Factory.

Philby's was tucked back out of sight, I can see how you wouldn't have heard of it. But Jazz Factory? Have you ever been downtown? It was on Northside Square right across from the courthouse. It had been there a long time.

Philby's seemed to get pretty crowded on weekend nights, but other than that, I think they hurt for business.

Well, I only arrived in Huntsville last October... I honestly have no idea when the Jazz place closed. It just sounded interesting when someone described it to me post-mortem.

Maybe cause all the city does is promote Bridgestreet BridgeStreet Bridgestreet like its some European center of entertainment and culture the greatest shopping center ever come to Alabama, the South, and maybe the world! Don't get me wrong Bridgestreet is a nice place but the city has to have something to offer besides it.

Nope, Nook's not moving. Connell is perfectly happy with his SW Huntsville location on Bob Wallace Avenue. But while tending bar there one night I overheard a conversation and one guy mentioned he was planning to buy Philby's and put a new place in there. I don't know any details about what kind of place he's talking about though.
