Swine Flu response in local schools
What precautions are being taken in local schools in the Huntsville/Madison county area?

I'm in the Hampton Cove Elementary computer lab at least once a week and there are at least ten bottles of hand sanitizers in there. Other than hand sanitizers, I don't think there is much else. Everyone is waiting for the three (1 + 2) flu shots.

Do you really want to risk the Guillaume barr syndrome? That's what happened the last time they rushed that swine flu vaccination. Besides, it will be TOO LATE anyway. We won't get the vaccination till Oct. 15-- by then half of us will be sick or dead or both...

The medical community has been warned to be on the lookout for GBS due to the swine flu vaccine, so they know the risk is there. Is the risk worth it for an illness that is usually mild?

Swine flu is at our school-- at least three cases... hope the dire predictions about teens not surviving it are exaggerated.

The "last time" was 30 years ago...as with all other technology, vaccine development has changed and improved as well.
I sure hope half of us won't be sick or dead by Oct. 15! None of the medical professionals I know are crying that the sky is falling.
Sure, if the say GB is a risk, it's a risk. You have to go with the odds, kind of like wearing your seatbelt. Sure, some rare wrecks may be worse if you have a seatbelt on, but probably not, so I wear my seatbelt.
I'll get the shot (or two) when it comes out.

I would recommend speaking with a trusted professional before getting the shot. I know that in the clinical trials it is showing more adverse effects with high risk respiratory patients, many have gotten critically ill with swine flu and/or pneumonia. My son's doctor has recommended that he NOT get the vaccine due to his pneumonia risk. It is really a catch 22 for us(and many like us). The boy from Scottsboro who just died had asthma, his swine flu turned into pneumonia and killed him. It is swine flu related, but the swine flu didn't kill him directly. We will have the same problem. My son is 6 and has had pneumonia 8 times. We were instructed to watch for symptoms and come in immediately if we even THINK it could be the swine flu. This way there will hopefully be time to deal with any complications. I am worried, but we can't live in a bubble.

I just got a call this morning from the Principle at Chapman Elementary, stating that they have had confirmed cases at that location. The recording went through the new protocol for evaluating illness, and it sounds like the schools will be more diligent in accessing sick kids sent to school. This ought to be interesting come Winter, when everyone has some sort of bug.
I already err on the side of caution, keeping mine home when others might send her in, but last season there were way too many kids in her Pre-K class that should not have been there.
I've never had a flu shot. My daughter has never had a flu shot. Other vaccines, yes...but her immunity was such that I weighed against it. Active, healthy and able to fend off colds or allergies her parents succumb to. Not a sickly child. Had little exposure. But now I'm mulling this over...cause she's right in the thick of it.
BTW, I can't get the video to load...but I'm wondering what product the janitor is using to clean with?

This is though to figure out...that kid that died in Scottsboro...poor soul...I wonder what I would do if it was my child...so everyday my son goes to school and I am literally shaking wondering if I am making the right call...hes six and I worry....may God help us all...he's at Williams Elementary and I ask him everyday - is there anyone in your class thats sick - so far - no - but the day he says yes - will be the last day until I can confirm that kid is sent home...
