Default Morgan County Vicious Dog

Hopefully someone may read this and have a suggestion that I haven't tried already or know someone in a position to help. There is no vicious dog law in Morgan County. There is a leash law...keep all dogs on your property and under your control at all times...This doesn't alway hold true. There is a dog that continually gets out of it's fence and goes on a rampage attacking other dogs. He will go into other dog owner's yards and through their fences to get their dogs. He rips open throats, legs, chest etc. Recently he bit someone walking on the road and was qurantined then released back to his owners. Only to never be monitored or anything...that is until it happens again. The owners have been warned repeatedly but still will not chain their dog or even put it on a cable in their yard...why? because they say it'll make him mean.... All animal control will do is come out and get him if they can find him out. I love dogs and would never harm one, but I cannot stand by and wait for a child to be attacked. After witnessing this dog going into another dog owner's yard and seeing their dog viciously attacked and ripped opened and blood all over...The owners didn't care and it seems that nobody will stand up to them, everyone gets mad but they don't take action because they are afraid or some just think they don't want to cause even more trouble...Well I will not just sit around and hope someone else gets something done. I do not want my child or anyone's child to be attacked and that's what will happen next. The owners are not responsible, I have talked to them and told them my concern but they don't care. Last year this dog ripped their other dog's neck open in front of them and killed him. Yet they ignore all the warning signs. There needs to be a vicious dog law! Anyone have any suggestions on how to get something done. I'm so concerned about this matter. Please Help.

In the last couple of weeks there was a older couple near Athnes, GA who were attacked and mauled by a pack of wild dogs. They started out as strays that banded together. The authorities finally got serious when they killed a human. In our last neighborhood which was a very upscale one in Atlanta we had a pack of dogs that ran wild and killed pets. In your situation, these dogs will go after a child next. What will the authorities say then? Too little too late.

Call the county commissioners, the sheriff and if they don't do anything then call TV stations. Voice your concern. Get a petition together and have your neighbors sign it. Most AC have traps they can setup to catch loose dogs.

get a .22 LR and dispatch the animal. waiting and the law to protect you will get you no place. They have bigger fish to fry and this dog will hurt someone or their livestock.

First, welcome to CD Forum! I see that you registered just to post this as your first post, you must've feel strongly about this issue.

I don't know how things work around here for such issue. I would worry about getting the wrong end of deal if you do this. Now 'the law' has a reason to come after you!

I wasn't even aware that Morgan County had a leash law. I doubt that it is seriously enforced. The sheriff's deputies have a lot more serious stuff to handle (finding meth labs, for one) than bad dogs.

I agree with lostcountryboy. You're going to have to take action on your own. You should get other property owners who agree with you together and go to the county commission first, though.

Good luck. You'll need it.

I'd document its viciousness, and the next time I saw it out and about would be the end of the problem.

"Yes sir officer, this vicious dog was uncontrolled and coming at me, so I shot it. I've already seen what it can do."

Thanks for the advice and opinions. I am in contact with the police and it may go to court even though I wanted to be peaceful and passive. I am not going to shoot another animal, I'm not like that at all. But it's sad that more laws have to get passed just because some dog owners aren't responsible. Someone in the neighborhood said the pound came out again last week..apparently these same pit dogs got out again...a woman down the road told someone I know that while she and her son were outside those dogs came down the road and chased them and growled at her and her son....well now someone else is tired of it. I was headed to the golf course the other day and saw that they have put dog houses in their front yard now with 2 big post staked in the ground....probably gonna put a log chain on them out in their front yard.Yet I didn't see the dogs out front though, so maybe they are behind their wooden privacy fence or loose again let's hope not..I feel sorry for the people that live around close to them. I've seen kids out there and hopefully the county commission is going to help with this accident waiting to happen.

Oh by the way the police will tell you if you see dogs attacking another dog as I did...to get a video tape...ok that's the last thing I was thinking when I saw it happening , it was so crazy and scary..and when you are driving by and see this going on all you won't to do is yell and scream for someone to help.so if any of you see anything like this then have a video camera ready for sure.
