DSL question
We are going to be moving to Grant. We were told that the phone company in New Hope also provides DSL, but I was wondering if in rural areas, you are limited to only the phone company's DSL or are there other options? And if so, how do I go about finding them?
Sorry if I sound like I'm in the dark ages... this is the first time we'll be moving since DSL was around so I'm at a loss as to setting it up. I work from home so it's pretty important.
We currently have Verizon which I love, but I don't believe they're in that area? Thanks,

Your only option out there is probably New Hope Telephone Coop DSL or Satellite (I'd bet New Hope is your best bet). New Hope is rolling out an all fiber optic network, so maybe not so bad.

Everything on New Hope Tel Coop's website looks straight out of 1995, but I did find an ad for DSL with a max of 512k up and 1.5M down. Dunno if its current.

What about the Verizon card that you can get? We used to have that at the River, and it worked great.

I know what you mean about their website! You actually have to fill out an application for DSL and they say to allow a week for processing. Eh??
How does the Verizon card work? Sounds interesting.

Tested myself last night during prime time hours. Where I'm at, Hew Hope is reliably over 3M. Not phenomenal, but satisfactory for virtually any task - working from home or gaming.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. ATT and Verizon both offer access to their cellular data networks. Coverage is kinda splotchy though, especially when structures/geography are taken into account.

We have found that the Verizon setup worked well for us, even in areas that didn't have great coverage (like at the river, which is pretty isolated, I used to have to go up the hill to get a phone signal with other carriers). I think they have the best coverage.

AT&T also offers 3G service in the Owens Crossroads area... not sure about New Hope and Grant.
Oh, and for comparison, my average speed with Comcast in Hampton Falls Apts was 3M on average with their "performance" option - again during prime time weeknight hours (7pm-9pm). It would usually vary between 2.5 - 3.5M
