I have had a home in Guntersville for 3 years and will be able to move there full time in December, finally! We love the area and I have seen many a home for rent in your price range, keep an eye out under homes for rent in the Sand Mountain Reporter, here is their site:

You will enjoy the area and have the advantage of being near the water without the threat of hurricanes. We thought about moving to Mobile area as I love the beach but we decided we wanted to get away from an area prone to hurricane season.

You can find a nice house in Arab for that price. I only know of one Karaoke place and that is in G'ville. There is only one bar in Arab. There is a 3/2 in Arab for $650.

You can check out valleymls.com and select rentals in the cities you are considering. Personally I would chose G'ville or Arab.
