If the job comes to fruition, we will obviously visit the areas and make a decision, but if his job is in Decatur, we do not want a 40 minute commute from HSV, so that leaves Decatur or Madison. Madison, at least on the surface, seems to have better schools.
And yes, it's a good job, thanks. Not to mention my job and we would have a nice down payment. Would you like to see some financial statements before making a suggestion?

Hiya Aurora [from Denver area, eh?],
Welcome to this forum. Please excuse Charles's sarcasm. Keeper will offer some adult supervision in this forum if Charles doesn't behave
I will say that you're making a smart informed decision to choose the City of Madison for your future home as well as for its excellent school system. Some of us who're smart and make informed decisions have chose to live in Madison as well.
Considering your husband's job is in Decatur, ideally you should look for subdvisions that has easy access to the I-565. The good news is that there are many good subdivisions within your price range that meets that criteria. I'd suggest to start with many subdivisions along County Line Road such as the Whitsworth Farm, Cambridge, Heritage Plantation, Heritage Proverence, etc.
There're Realtors that post on this forum. You can tell they're realtors with a little "house" logo next to their names. We are not allow to 'recommend' specific realtors or post links to their websites, but I am sure they'd be happy to DM you and happy to educate you about the various neighborhood.
Good luck with your search and wish you the best in your DH's future job offer.
BTW, is your DH's new job with the ULA?

Edgewater might be a good fit - I have several friends who live there and love it.

We live in Madison and love it. I live right off of County Line, in Walden. We have a community lake, pool, clubhouse and a nature preserve. Nice winding entrance...families fish at the lake, 4th of July parade for the kids, etc. Great community. No HOA worries. We are debt free and have a wonderful HOA board.
There are a couple of homes on the market in Walden right now that have very nice lots...wooded.
Walden Preserve has a few on the market also, below $400,000. Check with Drammamamma about the HOA there, however. Not sure how that sits.
There are several great subdivisions that will make your husbands commute an easy one, no worries
Currently, in the $300,000-$350,000 range there are approximately 40 homes on the market in Madison, with an 8-9 month supply. Clear buyers market.
In the $350001-$400,000 range in Madison, there are approximately 30 homes on the market, with a 14 month supply. OUCH. Now THAT is a buyers market It's good to be you right now, lol.
Statistically, list to sale price is also lower in the fall. Again, it's great to be you!
The others here on City Data really are just joking with you...Charles is the class clown and gets sent to the principals office occasionally, takes his swats and comes back for more. He truly is kidding, as are the others. Kind of a sick twisted welcoming committee, but hey, it's Alabama! Most of us here are transplants as well.

Edgewater is nice as is most of the neighborhoods of Zeirdt. Walden is also really nice. I have a friend that lives off County Line/Nance area near the Walden neighborhood.

Aurora11, it is actually the level of friendliness you can expect from the Madison area. I am not saying this to be sarcastic, I am saying this based on my short experience. Now maybe I didn't live in a good area, I don't know, but this is really the way I felt. I lived in Madison for 3 months because my husband did an internship there when he was in college. He graduated in May and one of his job offers was in Huntsville. However, he turned it down and took another offer near D.C. because of that experience. With your income, there is a nicer area you could afford in the southeast part of Huntsville near Monte Sano, but it would be a little far from Decatur. I know I am going to get a lot of criticism for what I said. I hope you have a better experience than I had. Good Luck!!
