moving to huntsville from denver this weekend
well we are moving to the huntsville area this weekend, from denver,co. and need some help with areas.. my husband is looking at the area of merrimack village duplex, does anybody live there who is on this post, is it safe around the area. my husband is looking to save some money, before we buy a home. we have a 6yr old girl. so schools have to decent at least. what about other areas that are reasonable. looking to rent about 800.00 for a home or town home. i will be working at home and my husband will be looking for work here.. how do people look at mix- relationships since i'm black and my husband is puerto rican. in denver their ok with that.. any way how big are the duplex by sq. footage. how is the area of 35805, 35810, 35806. i read posts on 35802, 35801, and 35803 as good areas, also about madison. what about the area around oakwood college. any way any good remarks will be very helpful. thanks.

You won't have any problems in H'ville being in a mixed relationship.
I did a search and found this..

However, I also saw where some kids spray painted cars in that area back in July. Hopefully someone who knows more will be able to tell you about the area.

You will be just fine here! I have 2 separate friends/clients that are a mixed family. One family bought in Harvest, and the other is on the Madison/Huntsville border. Both families are happy here and fit right in! To get a good idea of schools here, you may want to check out www.greatschools.net
Welcome to Huntsville

You'll probably really never know how people feel about this. You probably don't know for sure in Denver (Venice or Berkley or Boulder or West Hollywood either). It's pretty individualistic.
Some people won't like you and some people won't care and some people will embrace you.

We just moved from Denver last month and had the same idea about saving money. I checked out those duplexes. Most of them were dumps. You might do better with an apartment. I can send a few suggestions in a private message if you want.

It went well. We stayed in a hotel for a week or two while we looked at places to rent and then waited for an apartment to be cleaned and ready for us to live in. The drive was incredibly long but we made it with no major disasters!

Ah, the drive across Kansas ain't for the faint of heart. And I miss Denver myself, but Huntsville is home.

It is probably too late for the rental, but maybe I can still help. We are in hampton cove and although I am not in a mixed relationship, my son is a beautiful mix of something(his father I know is part am Indian, Hispanic, and white, his mother was definately part black and his genetic markers and his eyes show Asian traits, just don't know where from).
He hasn't had a problem yet, he is a popular kid. He has 2 white parents and thinks he was just born with a tan, he knows he sees his bio father once a year, but hasn't made any connections. Don't know if that has anything to do with it(ie he doesn't notice so noone else does either?), don't know.
My daughters class is very mixed and everyone gets along with everyone.
So while Charles is correct, you will never know how people truly feel, you know how you are treated.
