From what I understand 36 or 38 million is bond money, which we would not pay the interest on. Going to save over $70 something in interest payments. The school is going to cost approx. 60 million so the question is how to raise the remaining funds...via a .5 cent tax increase or via property tax.

They'll start with a .5 sales tax, but prefer to hit property owners. I'm fine with it BUT the one caveat of coming here from DC was LOWER property taxes. Lose that and add on the HOA CC&R issues, non-disclosure and buyer beware and future relocating people might not see it as an advantageous move. But then, having a job is advantageous.

Each new home built and new resident that moves into the area will increase the tax base.

I do not understand the need for additional taxes... I guess that is why I live out in the county.

The need for the taxes is to pay for the new school and to support a TOP school district. sorry but the county can't ad that as a "g come move here NoVA/etc."

Which district? And I don't understand the last sentence.

MAdison City district is the TOP district that needs as much money we can pump into it to maintain that level of performance.
The last sentence was that the Madison County schools cannot ad (advertise) themselves as top-notch for and to NOVA relocatees - that was the poster's opinion.

I read Buckhorn is doing great, and Sparkman is OK (county).

Yup, that was what I meant. And Madison City Schools are the top draw for moving here and paying more for our houses and taxes because we want a top school district. I'm sure Buckhorn and Sparkman are doing great, but they are still not at the caliber we expect for our child's education and future opportunities.
