Considering buying a house in Chapman Acres...can anyone tell us about the neighborhood?

No, I don't know the neighborhood. However, if they have an HOA, I would suggest going to www.alabamahoa.org to get a brief education before writing any contracts.

If you don't mind the school ratings (ChapElem 5/10, ChapMid 2/10 at GreatSchools dot net), then it's ok. Because of the school situation, houses are cheaper (besides being old, small, and dated floor plans), and won't see a property appreciation as high as good school districts.
It is quiet and beautiful mountain backdrop, easy access to I565 and US72, and downtown.
There are however newer (20yr) and larger homes in the Maysville, Oakwood, Orba quadrant (Gladstone, Rosalie Ridge, Orba, Stapp, Rodgers). The new construction/ additions in this area happened eastward along Oakwood and northward to US 72 (toward the mountain - Saddle Tree) or they've been sprinkled in-between 60's homes where lots were available.
