Looking for bakery in/near Madison
Can someone suggest a good bakery in or near Madison? I want to order a birthday cake for a relative there. The manager of the nearest Publix refused to accept payment by phone (CC) or mail (check), so I need to find an alternative. Thanks!

That's really odd, because usually you don't even pay until you pick the cake up. Did you try both Publix in Madison? There is one on 72 and another on County Line RD. I have lived in Madison for four years and if there is a "real" bakery anywhere it would be news to me.

The Publix on 72 was much nicer than the one off of 20. County Line is OK. I ordered a turkey last year, but wanted a smallish one (hwy 72 store), I didn't have to pay anything ahead for this (It was a weird date, first week of December). When it came in, it was a pound bigger than what I specified, they charged me only something like 20 or 30 cents a pound.
That doesn't speak for the bakery, but usually Publix has a good bakery....

I forgot about the one on Madison Blvd, since I never go there. I have gotten sheet cakes from Costco several times, much cheaper and good quality - just not as convenient (but of course if you're not a member it's not an option). I do vaguely remember seeing a bakery on Old Madison Pike in the same strip mall that the Asbury thrifty store is in, but I have never tried them and don't even know if they are still there.

If you don't need it to be in Madison proper, Peggy Ann Bakery does a pretty good job. It is over by Parkway Place Mall. There is also Ellen's Creative Cakes over on Jordan. I believe we have ordered from there as well.
Would it be simpler to send the money to whoever is picking up the cake and having them pay for it? Publix makes a pretty good birthday cake.

cake bakery i would also suggest peggy ann in huntsville. they are truly the best in town, but not cheap. Publix has the best tasting cakes and incredible if you are looking for homemade bagels, bread, cinamin rolls, excellent sandwiches and some of the best soups i've ever had, you need to try BREWBAKERS. It's on the formerly named Hwy 20, now Madison Boulevard, in the same complex as Publix and Donatos Pizza.
