Question Athens area 5th wheels and tr trailers?

We'll be needing an old 5th wheel or travel trailer to live in over at least part of the summer, on our property in the Athens area. My van won't pull anything as large as what I need safely, so I need to know where to look for something that is inexpensive ($5K +-) and can be safely brought to the property. I've checked ebay and craigslist, and know about the times-leader, but can anyone give suggestions for a dealer or private sale in the area? Please PM me on private sales to keep the thread clean and helpful for anyone else who accesses it. The dealer sites in Hts'vl seem to be pushing the new stuff, which is what we DON'T want.

harry, I'll keep an eye on the Huntsville Sell Y'ur Own on South Memorial Parkway for you. My BIL will keep an eye on the one in Meridianville. What's the minimum size you're looking for?

Thanks, nalabama! Responses like yours just reinforce my knowledge that we've made the right move into an area with good people. 30' would be fine for a tt, if possible. I almost bought one on eBay that would have been ideal, but it was in Ft Myers and too heavy to tow with my van.

I know I'm fishing the low end of the market, so I won't rule out anything reasonable. DW has a mold sensitivity, and we'll need the appliances to work, but those are probably the only major issues other than price. We just need to be on property both for the phone access for my business, and to oversee the jobs that need to be done onsite.

Sylacauga/Childersburg - google for the two big dealers on 280. If memeory does not fail me they do their own repo. Which bank in your area does mobile home loans? Talk to the commercial lender. He may have a problem loan he needs to get off the books before it ages too far.

No longer looking nalabama, found a 31' Holiday Rambler in N GA, and had it towed here. Registered it today, registration and fees were $50.10. Looks like we may be going to Hts'vl to transfer our driver's licences. There is only one person in Limestone County that does this, and they do 37 a day, with people lining up at 5:30 AM to take a number when they open at 7 AM. Bizarre.

Harry, if you're a Limestone County resident, you may HAVE to go to the courthouse there. It's bad in Morgan County, too, and we have 2 satellite offices. Blame the state gubbermint.

No, I talked with the woman who did my vehicle registrations. A person can go to ANY county office to get a driver's license. I don't blame just the state government, the patriot act turned most state's driver's licenses into defacto national ID cards. That means the process is bogged down in the catch-22 of finding suitable identification to give a suitable identification.

harry, call ahead before coming over to Huntsville. The paper last week said the State's computer was off-line almost all day for several days. One fellow had gone down there four times trying to renew and had no luck whatsoever.

THanks for the headsup, nalabama. We were heading out tomorrow AM to get this done, and I've also got a neighbor who called earlier today while I was out, asking for some help. If I'm just going to be cooling heels, I'd much rather help him.
