Local schools, public safety and road officials prepare for snow and ice Thursday | Breaking News from The Huntsville Times - al.com

I noticed the "snow emergency" is just about to kick in.

Run on the stores tonight? I'm down.

*sigh*
It is so funny how much of a tizzy this town gets in when there is a mere mention of snow.

I blame the weather folks first and foremost. Ditto for thunderstorms.

Yeah but after seeing the wrecks around here on warm, sunny days......

Anyway, it's fun to join the panic.

Head for the hills! er wait... we're in them.

Was in a Wallyworld this morning (per "pre-snow emergency protocol #1")...one clerk told me they were calling all hands for this evening and tomorrow....

I got beer. Too many people in the store. All is well.

But just in case, panic.

I also just realized I have very little charcoal, and that's not a good thing.

I laugh at the incompetence of southerners when it comes to real winter weather (this coming from a dude born in Florida). If you think an inch of 'snow' is bad how about trying Colorado for a change? You'll be in for a huge shocker....people go about their daily lives when it's -10ºF and blizzarding outside with 2 FEET of snow.

The city and the people are also prepared for it with snowplows, sand/salting the roads, etc. Growing up here when was I supposed to learn to drive in the snow? I think the whole time I was in high school we never even got enough to stick.

It is funny to watch everyone run to the store for bread and milk though.

They also have an army of snowplows and trucks dumping sand everywhere. And where the roads aren't treated, "daily living" means risky driving on icy roads.

Something about a picture and a thousand words comes to mind...Colorado:

LOL wtf happened here? Looks like a typical unprepared driver took a few cars with 'em while trying to keep control.

Okay so drivers here aren't perfect, but we do have to deal with a lot more bullcrap from the weather than people seem to realize. And usually when there is a bad wreck it's usually due to one of three things:

1: Drunk driving...common sense people...

2: Severe mechanical failure (recently there was a bad wreck caused by a tire exploding).

3: Driver from out-of-state who does not know the meaning of driving safely in poor weather.

Rarely is there a wreck, especially a multi-vehicular wreck, caused by someone simply losing control here anymore due to ice/snow.
