Huntsville neighborhoods
I am looking for suggestions on neighborhoods in the Huntsville area. I will be looking for a home in the 400K to 500k range (4br. 3ba with 1+ ac.). I would like an upscale suburb/rural area with the best schools, low crime, and not too far (within 10 miles ) of shopping. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jimhcom

View Huntsville Neighborhoods
Hello,
Many different areas to choose from including historical areas to lake side communities, nearby Robert Trent Jones golf courses or Golfing communities and more. What considerations are important to your family's education or lifestyle issues? Are you wanting to build or purchase in an established community? Do you want to participate in a home owners association?
I am a native of Huntsville and know most of the North Alabama area as I have lived here over forty-five years now. My profession qualifies me to help people just like you everyday with these type of questions. It is also what I enjoy doing, and suggest you consider looking at the Hampton Cove area located 10 minutes south of Huntsville on US Highway 413 South or the Providence community area in Northwest Madison County, or possibly some areas with community walking trails, lakes and more in the city of Madison, just west of Huntsville but within 10 minute commute to work and shopping in Huntsville. Harvest Alabama is also a possibility. Do you have horses?
Regarding schools, you will be pleased to know that we have a few top rated institutions here both public and private. I attended both growing up here attending Randolph, a private school with grades K-12, and Grissom high school, a public high school. We have many students who place very high in national merit ratings. Math, science, and language education is strong here as well as technology centers for trades. I have a friend whose child goes to a public high school I was told recently placed 10th in the nation in French for example. Feel free to contact me outside the forum for more specific help if you like.

What about the neighborhoods around 1) Providence and/or 2) Columbia High School?

IMO, Hampton Cove if you want new, Jones Valley if you are OK with older homes. Hampton Cove is closer to rural areas, Jones Valley is closer to the mall, Fresh Market, etc.

If you are looking for at least an acre, that will limit you a little bit. I love the Hampton Cove/Jones Valley/SE Madison County area. Are schools a great concern for you?

I'm beginning to see a few tear-downs, or tear-down equivalent remodels, in the Fleming Hills, Belair, and Lily Flagg neighborhoods of SE Huntsville. I think we'll see more in the coming years. With one of the neglected older homes and the right architect, you should be able to do well within in your target price range, if you stay under 3500 square feet. Spacious lots, 40 to 50 year old trees, excellent public schools, ready access to Redstone Arsenal, reasonable access to shopping, and no concerns regarding serious crimes. You probably couldn't get hurt financially if you just went ahead and bought one of these homes and lived there a year or two before deciding whether you like the area enough to go ahead with a remodel.

I am scrolling through the move to Huntsville forums, we are looking to move also a year away, we are looking from 250-300, is it better to live in Madison county b/c I thought Huntsville schools seemed better not sure? I have been on the outskirts of Huntsville but never actually there. We are a military family making our final move, is there much military families there? What are the schools like? Colleges? Private Christian schools?

Huntsville is in Madison County. When people say "Madison" around here, they are usually referring to the City of Madison, which is next to Huntsville in Limestone County.

The southeast section in the City of Madison around Horizon Elementary School district may be a good place to look. The new Winstone Subdivision is in the $350+ range and is less than 10 minutes away from any where located near Horizon Elementary off of Old Madison Pike. The established with some new homes at Highland Lake Subdivision $400+ is located off of Slaughter Road ~3 miles north of Old Madison Pike.
