Default Nance Road Widening

I just saw this in Huntsville Times:

Nance Road closing
The city will close Nance Road between U.S. 72 and McCrary Road at 8 a.m. Monday, and the road is expected to remain closed for about a year.
Detours will be available and local access will be granted, but no through traffic will be allowed.
The city is spending about $3.2 million to widen Nance to five lanes from U.S. 72 to just north of McCrary Road. The project includes improvements at the Nance and U.S. 72 intersection.

What is it with widening Nance? Wouldn't Jeff or Wall Triana or Balch make more sense? Are they planning on eventually widening Nance even farther north? If this is closed for a year, will Wall Triana and Capshaw have to take up slack or is it more likely to impact Jeff?

thanks,

Marc

Jeff Rd will begin widening later in the year. It actually wasn't scheduled until 2012, but HSV moved money around to get it started at the end of this year. However, it is only going to be widened for a short distance from 72.

Nance will be widened from 72 to McCrary. But the major problem is at Nance and Capshaw. And it is Madison County that is responsible for that, not HSV. So even though the intersection at 72 will be improved, Nance will still back up at Capshaw for a long time until the county decides to do something about it.

And this is why I refuse to live north of 72 in this town.
