Huntsville is great for all of the things you mentioned, but I'm not certain what you mean by "not give up too much city lifestyle." Huntsville is not particularly urban or very traditional in nature. It's a city that really sprung up largely around the time of suburban flight, so much of the city has a very suburban feel. The true urban core of the city is very very small and not as traditional as many cities. So I guess I'd have to know more what you mean by that. But in terms of jobs, housing, schools, etc. Huntsville's a great city.

Yeah... Huntsville is the IT-Tech center of the state... Birmingham is more Biotech. But that industry is definitely the primary industry of Huntsville right now.

2 malls, plus 1 (actually a "lifestyle" center - upscale strip) being built. PLENTY of kids sports of ALL kinds, including ice hockey and figure skating. Several excellent schools. Some good restaurants, not to mention some truly outstanding restaurants an hour and a half south in Birmingham. Huntsville is Alabama's IT center, as UAB mentioned, and encourages innovation. Do search this forum for quite a lot of info posted in previous months, and please come for a visit!

Huntsville is a wonderful place to live. I have been here most of my life. I have 2 young children who are active in soccor, karate, dance.. you name it. The malls here a good. We have a brand new one coming, that will have some very upscale stores. We are also, only an hour and a half away from Nashville and Birmingham. Moderator cut: soliciting

Let me add that I encourage you to check out the surrounding towns, such as Decatur, Athens, Arab, etc., especially if you want the feel of a smaller town. We are not "bedroom communities" as we have our own industry, but we are close enough that many folks who work in Huntsville live here.
