I thought you all might be interested....we had some strange weather today here in western NY.
We had a record high of 63 degrees at 3am this morning, down to the 30's 3 hours later.
Ay 4:45 am we had 75 mph winds......trees are down all over, houses and cars got hit, etc. the wind sounded like a freight train......woke me up, I could not see through the window the rain was so bad.

My brother's 30 foot high hunting blind came crashing down also. So see....I"ve been missing Florida, so I got a taste of a hurricane today....

Yeah, I know Rick....
But I thought it funny how the news media kept using the word "hurricane" in all the news casts.......

We do not ever hear that word in local news. I could not imagine winds harder then those.

I grew up in Florida and lived in the Jacksonville, FL beach area for almost a decade. I've been through enough tropical storms alone that made me rethink the wisdom of not leaving when I knew they were approaching.

Usually, other than a possible power outage, a major mess in the yard, and trying to find my garbage cans somewhere in the neighborhood....all was well. I would still imagine these kind of winds, not common to an area, would be pretty darn scary to the residents.

Yep ;I went thru Humbetos 90 MPH winds and Ritas 130 mph winds and the difference is a world part really. But I alos wnet thru a 745 MPH hurricane in Mass. i 1985 and it really tore the place up as far as powerlines etc. They just were not preapre form what I saw especailly the tree trimming.

i don't know why they say chicago is the windy city... my city is probably has more wind that chicago :/
just yesterday, on a seemingly regular day, someone's tree randomly toppled over from the wind. it wasn't a large tree, but it was ripped out of the ground by a wind gust. very strange event. imagine strong hurricane force winds in my already windy city!!! i saw my trees go horizontal once during a hurricane! D:
(they lived )

It's pretty much the same right now. Feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy especially at the lake.
