So would it be safe to say that aside from the Keys, that FL (even the gulf coast) is basically out of the red?

Katrina hit land w/ 145mph winds, as well. And there are more that have along the Gulf Coast.

This is certainly not more important than human lives disrupted and homes lost, but it's the several thousand oil rigs in the gulf that we also have to be thinking about. I know they did a lot of upgrades after Katrina and Gustaf didn't cause a problem....but a stronger hurricane could still be a detriment to our gas prices. I plan to fill up later today.

Yes due to the high pressure settling in over your state Ike has to go into the gulf.

Ike strength all depends on how it looks when it comes off of Cuba and how quick it is moving once it does clean the island. Gustav was traveling to quick to organize itself after it was disrupted by Cuba so all we can do is wait.

They just showed an updated map a couple of hours ago. It looks like there's a good chance that Fla. will be in the clear~at least from getting the brunt of the storm.

Unless Ike veers off or dies out (which sounds unlikely at this point), he'll be wreaking havoc in the Gulf. He seems to be heading for Galveston, but it'll take several days for him to get there.

ILNC, I KNOW you'll keep an eye on Ike.

ILNC I have been thinking about you as I see the potential path of Ike. Do you still have your mom with you?
