I work for a dealer, not the manufacturer. I can assure you that the 10yr/100000mile warranties are NOT a scam. As I am the one usually having to fix any POWERTRAIN issues that arise during the warranty period. I can't tell you how many engines I have replaced at the end of the warranty due to customers who don't change their oil or perform maintenance on their vehicles, because they get this idea that they have a 100k warranty and shouldn't have to do any of that. Knowledge is power. Funny thing is, this "Crappy Hyundai-Kia company" usually covers all the concerns for the customer. If you find one that won't its most likely the dealer that is not wanting to help, at that point call Hyundai or Kia consumer affairs and deal with the Manufacture directly, not a dealer.
Hyundai/Kia are 5 year 60,000 Mile Bumper to Bumper warranty (with the exception of wearable items: Brakes, Tires, wipers etc...) The 10/100 warranty does not hide anything, its an addition extension to the powertrain for an additional 5 years and 40,000 miles but only to the ORIGINAL OWNER. Once the car is sold and registration information is transferred the powertrain warranty is canceled. The radio and navigation units used to be warranted for 3year 36,000 miles and those just increased to the 5/60 a few months back.
Our powertrain warranty is better than any other manufacturers. Ours covers any driven item, wheel bearings, axles etc... I have yet to find another company with a powertrain only warranty that doesn't consider those items drivetrain. And with Hyundai you still get roadside assistance for FREE during the 10/100
There is NO CHARGE for the 10/100 warranty, it is part of every new vehicle.
Oh and by the way GM just cut all their 100000 mile warranties back down to 5yr/60k
I'm a little surprised at how many people come to the hyundai/kia forum simply to say how crappy the cars are.
If you don't like the cars don't come here just to say they are crappy, what's the point?.
I purchased a 2012 Kia Sportage new and it currently has 58k miles. Not a single problem and Kia pays me back some gas money for miles driven due to the mis-stated mpg claims. I love the car except for the blind spots caused by the A pillars.
Wife purchased a 2009 Hyundai Elantra 5 spd and over the last 2 years (and 40k miles) it has also been remarkably good despite being an abused used car. My only gripe is the ugly stained seats from the abuse of the previous owner. I just changed the timing belt at 90k miles and it was surprisingly easy to do. It's a keeper.

The Salesman just told me about a 10/100000 'wrap warranty' which extends the 5yr/60k Bumper to Bumper. Anyone have any info? (e.g. price, is it worth getting etc?

I had a 2007 Accent, the transmission gasket leaked, and necessitated the replacing of the transmission, and they replaced it free of charge. Then the car ran on 3 cylinders, it was getting consistent 20 mpg, and they fixed that too, all this happened under 5,000 miles.
It is frustrating though if you thought the whole thing was under a 10 year 100k warranty.
I've owned a 2004 Hyundai Sante Fe and now still have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. I knew right from the start that the 100,000 warranty was for the powertrain and not bumper to bumper. The company must believe in their engines since they warranty up to the 100k whereas other manufacturers only go up to the 60k point.
I just might be changing from a Hyundai to a Subaru only for the AWD and safety features. But it's hard to get away from the 100k warranty on the powertrain. So I have to really think about it. I know I never have used it on my 2 vehicles but it was there if I did need it. I have a Ford F150 one time and the trans fell at 85k. Luckily I had a warranty of 100k on the truck.
