I bought a Sorento in 2008. The older style. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

With that said we did have some strange problems right after we bought it. Nothing major, but a pain the the butt. They covered all the work and parts. Once they determined the problems and fixed them it's been a problem free driver.

Fantastic vehicle in winter. Now we're in Las Vegas. Goes up hills nicely. lol.

We're around 60k miles now.

I think with the Hyundai warranty there are "gray" areas. For example if the coolant system fails and the engine is destroyed. The powertrain warranty may not cover it because it was caused by a component outside the engine. The warranty doesn't cover fluids going through the engine or transmission.

If that's true, then the warranty is certainly a scam.

Out of curiosity, has anyone read the warranties for other car makers to see if they are worded the same?

Nope,only the powertrain.
Reading and reading comprehension are powerful skills. You should work on yours.

For all of you who aren't understanding the warranty you get with a Kia I found one. Below is a portion of that warranty.

https://www.kia.com/us/en/content/wh...rranty-quality

https://www.kia.com/us/k3/content/me...9_warranty.pdf

This seems to be the section that confuses most posters.

Quote:
Power Train Coverage
For Original Owners (defined below), the Power
Train Limited Warranty begins upon expiration of the
60 month/60,000 mile Basic Limited Warranty
Coverage
, and will continue to cover the following
components up to 120 months or 100,000 miles from
the Date of First Service, whichever comes first
. It
does not cover normal wear and tear, maintenance, or
those items excluded elsewhere in this manual. See
Exceptions and What is Not Covered.
It explicitly denies complete coverage after 60,000 miles even for the original owner. After that time it becomes a limited warranty, and they specifically list what is covered under that warranty.

If you refuse to read and understand warranties and contracts you are at fault. No one else is. Just you.

I don't work for Kia or any other auto manufacturer. I am retired. I'm just attempting to make people understand they need to read and comprehend contracts. So many don't.

Quote:
Kia warrants that your new Kia Vehicle is free from
defects in material or workmanship, subject to the terms
and conditions set forth in this manual. An Authorized
Kia Dealer will make necessary repairs, using new or
remanufactured parts, to correct any problem covered by
this limited warranty without charge to you.

1. The Warranty Period
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty is divided into
various warranty periods.
For the purpose of all
warranties contained in this Manual(other than
warranties on replacement parts or accessories
installed after the Kia Vehicle was placed into use),
the warranty period begins on the Date of First
Service. Date of First Service means the first date
the Kia Vehicle is delivered to the first retail
purchaser, is leased or is placed into service as a
company vehicle use (e.g., as a demonstrator, rental
or fleet vehicle), whichever is earliest. Moreover,
whenever this manual refers to a warranty period of
months/miles, it means whichever comes first. Any
remaining portion of any warranty, except the 120
month/100,000 mile Power Train (Original Owner)
warranty
, is fully transferable to subsequent owners.

2. Warranty Coverage

Basic Warranty Coverage
Except as limited or excluded below, all components
of your new Kia Vehicle are covered for 60
months/60,000 miles from the Date of First Service
,
whichever comes first (Basic Limited Warranty
Coverage)
. This Warranty does not cover wear and
maintenance items, or those items excluded
elsewhere in the Manual. See Exceptions and
What is Not Covered.
Parts replaced under any warranties in the Manual
become the property of Kia.

What is Covered
New Vehicle Limited Warranty

The items covered by the Power Train Limited
Warranty include:

In the Engine:
Cylinder block, cylinder head and
all internal parts, timing gear, seals and gaskets,
valve cover, flywheel, oil pump, water pump.

In the Transaxle:
Transmission case and all
internal parts, torque converter, drive shafts,
universal joints, front hubs, bearings, seals and
gaskets.

In the Axles:
Axle shafts and C-V joints (couplings),
seals, hub and wheel bearings.

In the Transmission:
Transmission case, transfer
case, torque converter and all internal parts, seals,
and gaskets.

In the Differentials:
Front and rear differential
assemblies, cases, all internal parts, seals and gaskets.

In the Propeller Shafts:
Drive shafts, universal joints.

Original Owner
An Original Owner is defined as the first retail
purchaser or lessee of the Kia Vehicle who takes
delivery of the Kia Vehicle on its Date of First
Service. If the Kia Vehicle was first placed in service
as a lease vehicle, and the lessee purchases the
vehicle at the end of the lease, the 120 month/100,000
mile Power Train Limited Warranty remains in effect.

The Power Train Limited Warranty is not transferable
to subsequent owners.

We have 2 2014 Kia souls, one has 38k, the other 70k. No issues whatsoever. Best cars I’ve owned.

Here's a question. I'm due for an oil change on our 2014 Kia Soul. It's got over 32k on it and the original battery is now over 4 years old. I've been thinking about asking the dealer to put a new one in but its currently running fine. Same with some other maintenance suggestions like new spark plugs and transmission or coolant changes. Are these necessary to continue the warranty on a set schedule or can you wait a bit? Oil changes have been followed like clockwork along with air filters.
Its been four years with zero mechanical problems, 100% reliable and is holding up remarkably well. I can see myself driving this car ten years from now, knock wood.

I read and understand all of it. Reading comprehension does wonders.

My 2013 Optima LX is still running strong. Damn thing runs like a champ! I think I may go for a Kia Stinger GT in a couple of years. I got to test drive one of those a few months ago. If I were making more money to afford one of those GT models as brand new, I'd have chatted some numbers with the salesman. I'll keep the Optima as a daily driver and for the time of the year when the frozen stuff is on the ground.
