Hyundai will be introducing a new touchscreen audio system that will not include a CD player for its 2016 model lineup. Instead the system will link with smartphones via Bluetooth to make calls and listen to music from your phone, either stored on the device or streamed. This new audio system will initially be introduced in select models, but Hyundai eventually wants to have all of its vehicles include this system, including its entry-level models.

if it's anything like the existing cars, the USB slot is down below where the cig socket is, separate from the touchscreen system. Frankly, I'm not even sure if ours has a CD slot haha.

My last two Hyundai's (a 2011 Genesis Coupe and a 2010 Genesis Sedan) both have a USB slot for thumbdrives, minijack aux input, and a CD/DVD changer but I can't tell you the last time I used either as I stream everything over bluetooth.

Seems like a way to cut production costs, cut weight and in a way make it hard for people to use a hard psychically copy of digital media unless they pay a motherly fee to rent it from a cloud based service.

Great for Big Business bad for the consumer IMO

You can use your own MP3s. This has nothing to do with ownership of music or forcing people into cloud-based subscriptions.

I have the features in my cars but they cost money to manufacture/install and leave another failure point. Considering that I never use them it makes sense for me to remove them just like tape players.

Not now but it is easy to see it is heading that esp. if the manufactures remove USB ports and Audio in plug in's later on in the future in favor of cloud based steaming service but that is just IMO

I could be wrong and hope I am on this issue

My 2011 Charger has a CD/DVD player, SD card reader, and USB port, not once has the CD player seen a disk. I suspect most manufacturers will be deleting them as well.

as long as manus at minimum give the option for a usb drive that would work for me, as i keep a copy of my music library on a drive in each car to listen to when radio/satellite doesn't trip my trigger. Said usb drives hold a lot more then my phone does and i wont use any cloud system to store everything then have to stream thru it.

Of course i'm sure the day will come when usb drives go the way of cd's..... and cassettes... and yes even the 8-tracks i can remember in my early driving days....
