LOL I've owned 4 Mercedes including two AMG's and I worked for them for 5 years selling...
That's all well and good but it means little here. Nor does it disprove your ignorance. I don't particularly care which car you purchase for yourself as that final choice comes down to your preference. I just try to educate the uneducated and hope for the best. I understand fully well that much of our society are lost causes.
If you feel that the Genesis is the right car for you, then maybe it is.
Not all Germans have long term reliability issues. Some do, some don't, depending on the model/specs.
Personally, If I was looking for a sedan similar to a Lexus GS, I'd probably buy an Audi A6 with the 3.0T engine and 8-speed tranny. I have the same setup in my Q7 and it's fantastic. It's been out for a while, so it's proven. It's a better value than Merc and BMW.
Lol a former MB current Lexus owner looking down on the competition and it's buyers with a superiority complex. I remember at one time BMW and MB owners were looking down on Lexus when it first came out. And Lexus pretty much smacked them back to Germany. Lexus turned the luxury car market on its ear. And they were looked at exactly the way people look down in the Hyundai Genesis.
There are people who buy x brand and no matter how bad that car may be in resale, reliability or overall ownership they will NEVER acknowledge it. Because they don't want to admit do something they bought wasn't the best or is really not that great. Or that there are some alternatives for less. Funny thing is at one time Lexus was the cheaper alternative and BMW/MB owners scoffed at it.

To be fair Toyota introduced the Lexus as a luxury brand. Hyundai is still Hyundai just like Toyota is Toyota.
Hyundai/Kia should create new luxury divisions to separate the brands. It's kind of off putting that you can buy an Accent right next to an Equus
Not sure how hot the Toyota LS400 would have sold if they kept it Toyota
They sold them as Toyotas pretty much everywhere else in the world until fairly recently. Lexus wasn't even available in Japan until 2005.
Well they knew enough about the US market to create a luxury brand
