Does anyone know the release date for the 2017 Forte5? I see that the sedan is on the website, but no sign of the hatchback. I like the 2016, but trying to hold out for the Apple Car Play addition. I'm looking to purchase soon and getting pretty antsy with the wait!

I haven't heard anything official yet. I imagine it can't be more than a couple months out at this point. I love my '15 but certainly would like the flat bottom steering wheel and stereo update from the '17. Not a fan of the seat trim though.

What is the deal on the seat trim? Is it optional? Only on certain trim levels? With my luck it'll be on whatever trim I want.

The leather with the orange trim is the no.1 reason I've kind of written it off my "next car" list (not that I'm getting a new car anytime soon). But otherwise, it looks like a stellar vehicle. Seriously though, the trim on the seats kind of reminds me of how honda did their last generation civic si with the red seat trim. It only fits the vehicle if you got the color red. Seems like a bad idea to me, but maybe the younger generation will dig it.

Yeah it's not even red which I might tolerate. It's orange. See the same thing in the Veloster. Hopefully it is just an option or particular color combo that you can avoid. Will have to see at release.

Just bought a 2017 Kia Forte sedan yesterday. I'm not loving it. I had two Kia Soul's over the last 5 years so I was used to sitting up higher in the seat. Now I feel like I'm sitting way too low and my very tall son can't even sit in the passenger seat which we discovered AFTER I brought it home. I was just tired of the Soul, felt it didn't handle well and I didn't care for the look from the back. It looked too much like that Nissan Cube plus there were so many on the road. I felt like the girl at the prom who feels all pretty until she notices three other girls wearing the same dress. :-(

I wish we had a 3 day "cooling off" period for cars but apparently that doesn't apply to vehicle sales. :-(

Surprising to hear that. I'm 6'7 and fit in the driver or passenger seat with lots of room to spare. Though I have the hatch(higher roofline) not the sedan.

Well I've now had the car a little over 2 weeks. I almost brought it back to get the Soul but I got a car seat pillow for the Forte so I wouldn't be sitting so low (I'm 5'1") and I've gotten used to it. It handles nicer than the Kia Soul and it feels more comfortable, like it "fits" me better.

I had to take my son to the doctor last week and with the seat all the way back and tilted back he was okay.

Have you used the seat height adjustment to pump it up for you? At least I presume there's one in the sedan. Those are more bare bones than the hatch and koup.

The 1.6L turbo with 200 HP is fine for a sporty daily driver today, but to be competitive in the "hot hatch" segment it needs more. It needs four wheel independent suspension tuned for performance handling, larger brake rotors at all four corners, and more power. Hyundai/Kia's current 2.0L turbo would be a good fit to make it competitive as a hot hatch. Problem is the hot hatch segment is not only saturated, it's also low volume. The sporty daily driver hot hatch is a nice balance. What I don't understand is why is it the 1.6L turbo makes such good fuel economy and acceleration on the Sonata/Optima Eco so shouldn't those numbers be better on the Elantra/Forte with the same engine set up? The Elantra GT (hatchback) and Forte5 are both nice platforms for a hot daily driver hatch. For the possible 2.0L turbo true hot hatch I'd import the Kia Pro'Ceed two door hatch. It would compete directly with the two door GTI. Top Gear tested the Kia Pro'Ceed and loved it's performance.
