I can't physically see it but my mother called and the bottom of her windshield is cracked. She's in "as far North as possible WV) - she said after a big snow last week that it had melted into a solid block of ice at the lower end of her windshield.
From what I could find online it appears that there is possibly some kind of copper wire at the bottom there that helps melt ice from the wipers? She had told me she'd cleared off the car on Monday - ran the defroster, etc. - wondering if she maybe had it up too high/hot or if it's possible that it can just crack before of having ice built up on it for days? TIA
I also tried to find prices and they are all over the board - Geico (her ins. co.) mostly talks about free chip repairs, etc. - not total replacement.
Did a search of Forte cracked windshield and several examples like yours came up. There are some Forte forums you should look into for suggestions and help.
She took it in on Sat. and they found a chip at the bottom of the windshield she hadn't noticed - theory is that with all the snow and ice they got the chip caused the crack. I did warn her though about the wire at the bottom and told her to not put the defroster up to full blast/full heat when she has ice - to "gently" warm it up.
