With the kiddos out of school this weekend we want to do some fun fall activities. I've heard of a few corn mazes but which ones are really worth it? Any fun fall mazes/ haunted houses, etc for teens? How about pick-your-own apple orchards?

I hate to say it but I was a bit disappointed in the Fall Festival here in Idaho Falls a few weeks ago. It was anemic. It had hardly anything to do with fall- (the season anyway). It was mostly just food vendor trailers with fair faire (ick) and booths with people trying to sell their homemade stuff. Maybe it was just too summery, too. It was a warmish day. At a fall fest you want to dress in colorful sweaters and walk around with a steamy cup of apple cider to sip and eat fresh kettle corn. (I bought some from a booth and it was stale- bleh!) I want to see pumpkin carving and scarecrow making contests, apple bobbing, booths selling nutty pecan pies (rather than banana cream) and see some livestock in a more natural setting rather than a pony giving rides in about a 20 ft circ circle around an asphalt parking lot.

OK maybe I better stop complaining. Maybe I lived in midwest too long where a fall festival is rich with color and culture and true fall activities.

Corn Maze Locator - Professional Maize Designs And Custom Cornmaze Design Looks pretty big

As for apples, I could be wrong, but I'm thinking the apple orchards are up north. My husband has hauled produce for nearly 20 years in this area and all the apples we've picked up for transport are up in WA. Having said that, darn near everyone around has at least one apple tree in their yard or their parents' yard. Ours didn't get much of a growing season, about the only ones usable for pies are clear up to the top. Most are barely larger than walnuts.

Thanks! Looks very interesting. One more question. How about pick-your-own pumpkin patches? Any ideas of farms around that do this?

Sorry about your apples. Long, cold spring wasn't it?
