I will be relocating my family to the Idaho Falls / Ammon area around April of next year (2013) from South Georgia due to work promotion and new Company division being built. My wife and I have two daughters ages 14 & 10. My company sent us up around mid-September to check the area out and we feel in love with the place.

So far we are thinking of putting our 14 yr old in Hillcrest High School. From what everyone told us that we talked to, that is where they recommended. Any opinions on this?

We are hoping to find a "nice" house with a rent or lease to own option for the fact that we know so little about the areas. I don't want to buy straight out and then realize I'm not where I want to be in 6 mths to a year. Any advice in this area would be appreciated also.

I realize the majority of folks are Mormons (which by the way we have no problems with what so ever) however we are Baptist. I guess my question here is will my daughters be accepted by other kids (mainly referring to the teens) being that they are not Mormon?

Any advice / answers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I had similar questions when we moved here just this past February. My kids are quite a bit younger but we had similar concerns. Although you will see an LDS church near every development there is a growing number of non-LDS. There are about 5 Christian churches that I have seen, 2 Catholic and a Methodist church. I know I have heard in the past that kids had a rough time because not only in school but all extra curricular activities were centered around kids that knew each other from their church. From what I can tell it has changed dramatically and your girls should have no problem finding friends and fitting in. When we first moved we rented a "twin home" which is what we call a duplex in California, but there are quite a few mingled in communities with single family homes and some are just as big as houses. We did decide to build a home (even though we are not sure how long we are staying). We are in the district that you are looking for and we like it. My girls are elementary school aged and attend a public Montessori charter that we are very pleased with. The local elementary has an awesome reputation but we came in mid year and wanted to start at a smaller school. You will need to stay on the south-east or east side of town to attend Hillcrest and there are a few very nice neighborhoods either in Ammon or Idaho Falls. I would say from looking around quite regularly at the rental market the rent in one of these neighborhoods would range from 1200-1500 depending on what kind of "nice" you are looking for. I am a fellow bible believer and would love to help in any way that I can. Being new to the area I might not have all the answers, but I think I have quite a good perspective for those coming from out of state. Blessings to you and your family with your move.
