Hi,

New to the area and looking to hire a nanny in September (2 days/week). Any thoughts on what we should charge? Thank you!

It would be easier to give thoughts on your question if you were more specific on the types of child or household duties you want her to perform, hours, additional expectations, how many kids, etc. People here pay dirt cheap for babysitting, but myself and several of my friends pay more for quality help b/c we can afford it, and want to keep excellent caregivers around. In other words, there is a big difference obviously between hiring someone to play with your kids for a few hours and give them a snack, versus picking them up from school, helping with homework, cooking dinner, cleaning up the kitchen and bathing them with pajamas.

Whenever I have asked a potential caregiver what they expect to get paid after outlining my needs, most of them don't have a clue. Big contrast to your east coast nanny who is ready to go....

Sorry, I did not supply much information! In home nanny for our baby boy (born June 2009) - watching him and maybe doing light laundry. I work from home. Hours would be 8 - 5. Thanks!

I have a history in the industry and would very strongly encourage you to select a candidate who has a Department of Health and Welfare FBI background clearance, CPR/First Aid, a current negative TB test, and some training in infection control. I regularly hire people for other kinds of work but who meet these qualifications and would be happy to discuss going rates if you dm me. Best of luck.

I polled several friends and acquaintences. Of course, it depends on your income and the exact duties, but the overall response they'd pay was anywhere from $3-$8 per hour under the table, a few dollars more if you are reporting to the IRS. I do have friends who pay $15 per hour for 3 siblings school age, but their nanny runs them to school, the park, after school activities, and play dates, as well as some house work during the day, while mom comes and goes from the home. I did applications and interviews years ago. Now, you personally can check the Idaho Court website on anyone if you have their name and year of birth. You can also search by name only, but Josh Smith will pull up a lot of hits. https://www.idcourts.us/repository/start.do Click on name search. You might have to run applicants names a few ways if they go by middle or nicknames. This is an official state of Idaho site, not one of those pay websites. Good luck!
