Hi there.
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Eastern Idaho. We are looking at the Idaho Falls area. If anyone can give us information on good elementary schools, surrounding towns, and activities and job resources we would appreciate it. It looks like the area is growing so we are hoping that means good employment opportunities. I realize that all depends on the type of job you are looking for though. My husband does construction and irrigation so if anyone has leads on that type of work that would be great.Schools are very important to us and since we don't know the area, we don't know what the better schools or areas are. As far as activities, if anyone knows about swimming teams, softball teams, dance, 4H and anything else, any information would be great. We are used to driving to be able to do much and for better healthcare so it would be nice if things were a little closer. Another question we have is about allergies and asthma. Does that seem to be a very big problem in Eastern Idaho? The area looks beautiful and like there is a lot of things to do there. We want to have choices for recreation that aren't too far and E Idaho seems to have a lot.

Welcome! I am from Rigby and really enjoy living here. If your husband does construction he shouldn't have any problem finding a job here as there is so much new construction going on. Also a lot of farming, so irrigation might be good. Are you looking for only Elementary schools, or Junior, and High Schools also? How many kids do you have and what ages? As far as a swim team I'm not sure. There aren't a lot of swimming pools around. Idaho Falls has 2. One public one, (i wouldn't suggest) and 1 private one that is at an athletic club that is wonderful. Actually they have 3 pools there. They are all really nice. There are all sorts of softball and 4H things going on. And about allergies and asthma. My husband gets allergies pretty bad for about 2 weeks in the spring but that is pretty much it. I don't get any. I think it is totally based on the individual. I do know a few people who live around here who have asthma, so it must not be that bad of a place if you have asthma. Yea, and there are a TON of recreational things to do here. All sorts of out door things. It is great. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks so much for the information. Only Elementary Schools right now. My daughter is 7 and will be in the 2nd grade. We also have a son, but he is only 10 months so no school yet for him. Do you have any ideas on contacting building contractors or other type of construction employers? We have been checking the newspaper and the dept of commerce and labor, but we aren't finding too much. It seems that the wages aren't very comparable to the cost of living. Do you think that is true? I think this is a great way to communicate with others and am so glad to have found it.
Thanks so much for the input.
