I hear what you're saying Pinkpalace. I don't have to go out to the Site, thankfully LOL, but I do hear of 20 getting shutdown any time of year from the winds!
You wouldn't believe how built up things are getting around here In not too long you'll be able to take Sunnyside straight onto I-15! They just have that stretch in between 15 and Holmes to widen, the rest ocming east out to Ammon Road is now four lane. |

I graduated Skyline in 2001 it is a newer school and I believe one of the best in idaho falls. the east side of idaho falls also known as ammon has a large meth problem. the people in these areas attend hillcrest and bonneville high schools. if high is more run down and seems to have a issue with the populations social econimical issues. the very welthy with the very poor creates some problems. Skyline tends to have upper middle to upper class.

I am LDS but i am not a "mormon". I was born in Idaho Falls, but raised in Alaska. Having lived in places where my family was the only mormons in town I can assure you that living in an area of mormons who dont invite you over for chit chat is not the worst thing to have happen. We literally had people persecuting us because of our faith. People who never got to know us as human beings, but only as some crazy satainc cult. We had anti mormon flyers constantly stapled to our business. We had town meetings where local "christian" leaders would "educate" the people on our evil ways. We had our personal beliefs mocked and disrespected. We were invited to youth group activities and then ganged up on and encircled as they prayed for our salvation. I believe in my faith and I have always respected others right to do the same. Because of how we were treated I will always defend peoples right to worship how they want and I get irritated when I see people warning of the "mormons" and putting blanket statements over an entire population of individuals. How foolish and biggoted.
I have since moved back to Idaho Falls and have a family of my own. My wife is a convert from India. My wife and I both attended BYU-Idaho and experienced culture shock. We felt out of place around all of the Utah-Idaho mormons. I admit there is an element clique like behavior that is easy to notice when looking from an outside perspective. I think this happens when there is any large group of people in any area that share similar cultures and belief systems. Its not right and I could go off on many LDS people that have been closed minded , self righteous, judgmental and hypocritical. I could also go off on people who are self-unrighteous, hateful and biggoted. Like the old story of the man asking about a town he was new to. The local asked him how is old town was. He was negative in response. The local said that this town was the same. Another man new to town asked what it was like and the local asked him the same question. He said possitive things of his old town. The local said he would find the same in the new town. Mormons may not have you over for beer or coffee , but they will not treat you with hate or disdain. If you want friends you need to be a friend. All of my best friends have been non-mormons. People are people. As for Rigby in general, ive always heard 1J ( jefferson county) drivers are the worst. And there has been multiple cases of panty thieves from Rigby lately. p.s. If you need manufactured stone work let me know |

I lived in Pocatello while in college (92-95) and I am not LDS. Although most people who live in Pocatello are LDS (~75%?), I was never made to feel like an outsider because I was not. Also, I spent almost all of my time with non-LDS friends and many of them were born and raised in Pocatello. Never once did I hear any of my non-mormon friends speak negatively about the LDS faith or its presence in the town - it just wasn't an issue.
I would take LDS neighbors over gangs and meth-heads any day! Once, my car broke down once just across the Utah border, and I managed to get rides from three different LDS families all the way back to Pocatello. Mind you, I did not know any of these people, but that didn't stop them from reaching out to help me. My point is that I was thrilled to be surrounded by caring, family-oriented people in Pocatello. I liked that there never seemed to be any tension between LDS and non-LDS residents, and everyone seemed to be very accepting of others' choices. Just my two cents... |

When were you last in Idaho Falls? Given your information about "the gangs or weather, temperatures in the summer etc., " I'm wondering how you know current information based on your ~ 10 years living in Idaho Falls years ago? It's very clear in your postings you didn't like the weather during your time in Idaho Falls. Of course, that isn't Idaho Falls in 2007. You didn't happen to move from a more southern state to Idaho Falls did you? Pinkpalace, I've read several of your postings and given some of the information you state makes I wonder how current your information is. When you mentioned AC, to me, that suggests you've lived in states that have temperatures high enough that need AC. What is your best guess of new homes being built in Idaho Falls or those having additional work done on them, that are having central AC installed now? I'm happy Maine is good for you. You'd probably be surprised, to know that there have been Maine residents moving to Idaho Falls. I was told they had better job opportunities in Idaho Falls or their Maine jobs just ended. Not sure why that is, but some things about Idaho Falls may a little different in 2007 than when you went to I.F. H.S. Then again, you may have just spent last month in Idaho Falls and know how high the highs are in the summer and what are the most severe months for winter and summer now. It just helps us all for you to clarify when you were last in the area. Thanks |

Was there a discussion about Twin Falls? Would you please cut and paste the link about gangs here so I can read it (whatever discussed the gang problem in Idaho Falls)? I've been reading about some other states recently, OK being one, where someone who asked was advised not to go out at night, and that most shootings were gang-gang not the bystanders. I wouldn't want someone believing that is the case in Idaho Falls. There are gangs and then there are the drive by shooting gangs from the big cities who attempt to kill weekly. I've certainly not experienced that in Idaho Falls. Meth heads are everywhere. The major cocaine busts are usually made between Cedar City and St. George, UT. And MJ comes across the border from Canada, so is often picked up in WA, northern ID, northern MT. But, this thread isn't about those drugs or those cities. Just wanted to clarify, having been in a motel in St. George one night when HAZMAT was called to clean the motel rooms that had been "producing meth," within an hour after a bust, what we were all talking about in this discussion. I've not experienced THAT level of meth in Idaho Falls. However, it would be ignorant to not recognize some of the crimes in Idaho Falls that were related to meth heads, just like they are in every city. ![]() What would you like to know about jobs or other parts of Idaho Falls, that haven't been answered yet? Any details you can give us about what type of work or other details you want to know? I read elsewhere, much later in this thread, about being Catholic (I believe it was in Arkansas). Idaho Falls has a very large Catholic community. Like any other religion, how involved people are depends on the person. But, there are two separate Catholic churches in Idaho Falls, with another in Roberts and a 4th in Blackfoot. There are some direct links for anyone who wants connected with the Knights of Columbus or other Catholic Organizations in Idaho Falls. I hope this helps give you more information. ![]() |

See the Idaho Falls (crime, fit in, communities) thread. Probably a lot of information will be contained in that thread.
