Default Water Activities

Hi KBrusveen,

Many of Idaho's best lakes for sailing, water skiing, swimming, etc, are in North Idaho. Among the largest in the state, Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced Pon-Da-Ray) at the city of Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene Lake (pronounced Cor-Da-Lane) at the city of Coeur d'Alene, and Priest Lake north of the city of Priest River are some of the best. These three large lakes are also good for lake fishing including mackinaw trout (lake trout) to 40 pounds and great eating kokanee. Lake Pend Oreille is the largest lake in the state at 65 miles long and 15 miles wide at its widest point.

There are other lakes and reservoirs throughout the state that can also be mentioned for the same activities. There are more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs in Idaho! If you are coming, bring your boat! Boat rentals are also available at most lakes/reservoirs.

Rivers? Yeah, there are rivers....10 of which are designated world-class trout waters. These include Henrys Fork, Kelly Creek, Silver Creek, Big Wood, Clearwater, St. Joe, Lochsa, Selway, Boise, and the Salmon. Fly fishermen from all over the world visit Idaho to fish these awesome waters.

And, for the folks looking for something different and unusual, many waters such as the Snake River and the C.J. Strike Reservoir offer up the prehistoric sturgeon that can reach 10 feet in length and go up to 300 pounds or more.

Hope that helps get you thinking.....
