So they are re-opening! Everything I was reading showed that the school was closed down in 2005, due to financial difficulty, and is still closed. Good to hear they are re-opening. Hopefully they will get some good leadership in there, and make it a positive place to be. Might be a future job possibility for me

Sorry if this got off topic But I guess it is about re-locating, jobs, and schools

Yeah, I don't know when though. You'd have to inquire with them.
I don't think you can take your own thread off topic, it's your thread, right?

Kinda. The thread is about my trip, not how the school is run, or who goes there
I would probaby have to do facility type work there, if they have any. I am a mechanic by trade.

Our timeframe goal is 6 years, if we can get all of our ducks in a row financially. I am hoping to stay employed at my current job (which isn't looking good) for that time period.
Hopefully the housing market will start to go back up here in about 3 or 4 years. We want to get a piece of land now, either as an investment to get our foot in the door, or as a future residence. I feel if we don't buy soon, we will be priced out for good. Right now seems to be a buyers market there, just like here. Some lots have been for sale for some time. A lot of inventory.

The reason for waiting is that my youngest is now 12, and I have 50% custody. I don't want to leave until he is 18 and graduated from HS. I will give him the option to come with us if he wants.

"I wish we would have had more time to look around at Cocolalla, Athol etc. Seems like once we got north of Sandpoint we never looked back Maybe next trip."

I live up in Cocolalla. While it is a beautiful place to live the prices in land and homes have become ridiculous. We "almost" bought lake front property but due to an incompetent Realtor, then later actually finding out he did us a favor, we bought above the lake. Lake front taxes has sored and the noise (echo)from Hiway 95 and the train are constant.

And yep, we're from Ca. Couldn't wait to get outta Ca., too many people, too much welfare(=higher taxes), the roads suck and much gas tax is diverted to welfare, and health care is $$$ and too much SMOG!

Being from CA, did you adjust to winter driving ok? The locals I talked to all said you can pretty much get around on All Season tire there, in the winter.

We're not really intereted in lake front property. More interested in quality pasture land (rock free) for the horses.

If you don't have your heart set on Moyie Springs, you should check out the Selle (pronounced Sell-ee) Valley north of Sandpoint. That is where all the agricultural land is in the region, and it's far enough from town that it's quiet and peaceful, but close enough to commute into town easily.
And you are right about the buyer's market. For the last couple of years houses were selling like hotcakes, at ridiculous prices, but suddenly the market bottomed out and now no one can get their house sold. If you find one you really want, you can probably bargain the price down significantly because of a lot of people are getting desperate for their house to be sold.

We looked at the Selle Valley as well. Really nice area also. Funny you mention about the bottom falling out. It already is happening here for about the last year, and is probably just now starting to hit areas like ID.

The property my wife and I looked at in Moyie Springs, originally started out at $189,000 for 10 acres. My realtor called me today, and said they will now take $159,000 It has been on the market now for about 250 days or so. Sounds like it's becoming a better deal, but I am not sure we can swing it. I just can't seem to find much info online about land financing. Seems like the interest rates on land purchases are around 10% and higher, plus not sure you can get 30 year loans for land. and on top of that they want at least 25% down Not gonna happen

I'm still trying to sell my 65 Vette, to put us in a better financial position.

Saw another property online that is in Oldtown, on the south side of the Pend Oreille River. 10 acres with a 100GPM well Not sure about utilities though I assume it has electricity for the well pump?

We are putting a financial plan together now with the help of a great friend (on this site who lives in Idaho ). So we will see where we stand when it's done. I am trying to keep my emotions out of it, and focus on the long range goal.

I have set my goal in stone to live in Idaho, but I have set my time frame in sand, since to many things can happen long term that will change when it happens. Basically my minumum time frame is 6 years. It may take longer...I hope not.

I just found this site and noticed your post. We lived in Murrieta/Temecula area for 16 years and made the big move up here last August. We bought a place on 10 acres in Athol. We absolutely love it here. I don't even want to go back down and visit friends. I dread that traffic and rude people (not all of course). It was a major move for us because we uprooted our 3 kids 18, 16. and 12 but they adjusted within 6 months and really like it here too. I was really fearful of the first Winter last year but I took some lessons and I did quite well. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The only times it was a little hairy was when it was snowing hard and I had to drive in it but everyone drives very slow and courteous. We put the all weather tires on and they worked great. I wish you the best because we were feeling the same way you are at one time.
