Going to take an educated guess it is Idaho's largest city, Boise. There may be areas with less snow, but near mountains, doubt it. Lewiston is also pretty mild, but you've got to drive a ways to get to real mountains. I guess it depends on what you mean by mountains. If you mean tall, snow-capped mountains with ski resorts, Boise. If you mean just mountain vistas, then Lewiston. I believe Lewiston has the warmest winters in Idaho.

I moved from Bemidji to Mountain Home and Love it. We get very little snow have a great view of the mountains. Just a 20 min drive and you can have all the snow that you would ever need.

Personally.....I would suggest the Coeur d' Alene or Sandpoint area.
Yeah....it snows but not nearly as much as it used to.....though ICE can be an issue.....but.....PLENTY of mountains, lakes, woods, skiing (Schweitzer Mtn.)...near Sandpoint or the other one east of Coeur d'Alene near Kellogg.
Anyway.....FANTASTIC scenery for sure.

Look at Boise, avg. snowfall 21 inches a year. We have all the amenities you could need and easy access to the mountains. You're probably looking at 45 min. to get to you're closest snow and about an 1 1/2hours out to heavier snow. Look at Star, Middleton, outskirts of Eagle and SE Boise. You can't go wrong here, at least in my opinion you can't.

Take a look at Grangeville, Kooskia, Kamiah, Orofino towns of Idaho. Lots of mountains, very little snow. All have grocery stores, hospitals etc very nice places to live. We have national forests and wilderness areas as our back yard. Yet we are 12 miles from town. We have abundant wildlife near and through our yard. Want more information?
