Default Best place in ID for a MD and family to move? CDA, Boise area, etc.

We are moving somewhere in less than a year to join/start a medical practice. We are very outdoorsy(hiking, biking, running, love to hunt and fish). We also want the creature comforts of shopping and resturaunts. I have two elementary school age children so great schools are a must. My husband loves the snow but I'm wary of it b/c I've never lived in it. I'm very sporty so I think I could pick up sking but I'm afraid of the work of living in the snow as well as the dreary conditions (cabin fever?). Snow isn't a deal breaker but lack of hunting is We really want to find a great community with friendly, nice people to create a life for the long haul. A growing community would be ideal. My big questions are can I survive the weather (what does living in CDA/Boise entail) and can I make friends with other people like me (active families with a comfortable income who really do want to be friends not just neighbors). I'm also opposed to cookie cutter houses on tiny lots and urban sprall. Any other enlightenment you can share will be appreciated. We aren't sold on ID but it's appealing b/c it doesn't seem as saturated with MDs and is conservative compared to lots of places west and PNW. We need a community of no less than 30k (preferably a little more). Thank you

I'm an MD in north Idaho. Not enough physicians up here for sure. Coeur d'Alene has the Ironman up here every year. Very sporty town...if you like triathlon stuff. Of course, huge hunting/fishing culture. Fantastic outdoor activities. Lots of snow in the winter...but snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing...lots to do!!!

I can't speak for southern ID. But all of Idaho needs more good physicians for sure!

There is a cliffside here in CDA that overlooks the lake and is almost completely occupied by doctors and custom homes off Mullen Trail road. The community here is absolutely as active as can be, there is 5 ski resorts within an hour, a theme park, miles and miles of trails and huge state parks. Hunting is huge here, I know atleast 4 doctors who take almost the whole month of oct. off because they go hunting. If you want a packet of fun stuff to do here, I would be happy to send one!
