Before it snows SE Idaho
Welp! The countdown has begun, and I am out of California in 44 days! {gasp!}
But I want to experience some places outside of Pocatello (my new home town) as well as inside Poky....before it snows!
***cause I hear it gets CRAZY out there in the winter, but don't worry about me...I'm from Ohio originally, I can deal with the snow. maybe??????***
Does anyone have any ideas of places to visit, or sights to see before the winter? ANYWHERE in Idaho is fine...I have an entire MONTH to go around before I start my new job...
Thanks OH SO MUCH!!! Oh! And I'll see ya'll in 44 days!

Definitely go to Stanley and Hell's Canyon. Both are beautiful, & the trip to Stanley is awesome on a motorcycle. Not as fun in a vehicle, just my opinion!

Not sure if it was a typical year, but Pocatello didn't have much snow last winter. A few storms dropped several inches, but completely manageable. There were no huge blizzards, no deep snowfalls, and except for a couple or three mornings, stayed above zero most of the winter. Hope I didn't jinx next winter!

San Diego, probably (in my opinion) the best city in California. But alas true love has taken over and he has to go back home to Pocatello in a few weeks and I'm going with him.
Did you ever get a chance to stop there? Or anyone for that matter...
Speaking in generalities...whats the population? what the weather? whats the overall...ambiance? Just 'a wondering

Kitty Toy,
I'm with pw72 on this one. Snow in Oct., at the most is a dusting (most years). But, nothing has been normal the past year between the cold last year and the abnormally hot summer and all the fires this summer.
Check our link about the top 10 things to do in Idaho Falls:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/idaho...things-do.html
A number of different people have described their trips and tips, to YNP, The Tetons, Craters of the Moon and even things to do in Idaho Falls that aren't available in Pocatello.
You shouldn't have that much trouble commuting to Idaho Falls in the winter, from Pocatello, but sometimes it is nice to know where Barnes and Nobles is now, or the new restaurants and shopping. At least to me, the shorter days of winter and sometimes snow can make specific places harder to find.
Do go to YNP, the Tetons, or Jackson Hole while you can. You won't regret it!
Best luck during the process of moving!

Check out Craters of the moon, It's close and very interesting. Wear tough shoes, the place is a giant obsidian lava flow.
